Rex Splode

Rex is a tall, athletic young man in peak physical shape. His skin is olive-toned, his eyes green, and his dark red hair sits long and knotted on top over shaved sides and a shaved nape. He is almost always in his hero gear, a snug jacket with red shoulders, collar, and sides over a yellow front, matched by tight trousers, brown hook-and-loop gloves and boots, and a belt strung with white cylinders. A red mask sheathes his whole head and neck save the chin and mouth, finished with a pair of yellow goggles.

Rex started out as a mouthy, arrogant show-off, sarcastic and abrasive toward the very teammates he called friends, which made him unpopular across the hero community. He was a possessive partner to Atom Eve yet cheated on her with Dupli-Kate, then made it worse by insisting the clones did not count. His careless mockery kept backfiring, earning him a brutal beating from Monster Girl and the lasting contempt of Black Samson. Beneath the bluster, though, he was no coward, fighting until he dropped and refusing to flee even when hopelessly outnumbered.

A near-fatal encounter with the Lizard League reshaped him. He owned up to his past cruelty, apologized to Monster Girl, and through his relationship with Shrinking Rae finally found a sense of normalcy and identity after a lifetime with nothing but his codename to cling to. He grew closer to Eve and to Invincible, and when Cecil moved against Invincible, Rex walked out alongside the rest of the Teen Team in disgust. On the verge of a quiet new life with Rae, he suited up one last time. Facing the variant Gogglesvincible to buy his friends time to escape, he bluffed a plan he did not have and detonated his own skeleton, killing the enemy at the cost of his life. Robot later honored him by taking the name Rex.

Rex's surgically enhanced body can charge any object he touches, accelerating its molecules until it bursts with kinetic force through a throw, a flick, or even a tap. The effect works on inorganic matter and some organic material, its power scaling with his focus and physical exertion, though heavier use drains his stamina fast and demands careful control to avoid collateral damage. Devices implanted in his forearms make the process possible, and his mightiest blast was strong enough to incinerate an evil Invincible variant, the very act that killed him.

Beyond that explosive gift he is nimble and acrobatic, trained from a young age, durable enough to trade blows with the likes of Monster Girl and Battle Beast, and remarkably tough, once fighting on through severed and shot wounds to beat King Lizard to death. A skilled martial artist and stealthy operator, he could hold his own against advanced fighters. After the Lizard League maimed him, he received a lifelike cybernetic left hand that channeled his powers as before and concealed a charged finishing blast. In the field he liked to arm himself with small projectiles, coins, magnets, and metal bars for improvised explosives.
