Val favors comfortable, practical clothes over anything showy. Her brown hair sits short and tidily kept, though by the age of twelve it had grown out, and a few small blemishes had appeared beneath her eyes.

Warm and steady by nature, Val readily offered Eve comfort during hard moments and genuinely cared about her friend's wellbeing. That patience had a ceiling, though. Eve's abilities frightened her, and rather than face something she could not grasp, she pulled away, worried the reckless displays might put her own safety at risk.

The two were close in childhood, meeting up in a treehouse to trade dares even after Sam left for private school. Years on, the friendship collapsed the moment Sam revealed she could rearrange molecules; Val branded the whole thing insane and fled, and a later call of her name from a bus stop earned only a wary glance back. She never appeared in person again. Her fate emerged much later, when Betsy Wilkins told Mark Grayson at the Pentagon Hospital that Val had died in the Invincible War. She also turned up briefly as the face stamped on a vending-machine coin.
