Give Us a Moment

Nolan finally admits to Mark the true purpose of his original mission to Earth: to test whether humans could breed with the dwindling Viltrumites. He persuades his son to enlist in the fight against the empire, with departure for Talescria set for the next day. That night Nolan tries to make amends with Debbie, but she rejects his apologies, strikes him hard enough to hurt her own hand, and orders him out of the house. Before shipping off, the family, Paul, and Eve gather for one last dinner together.

Allen and Nolan bring Mark and Oliver aboard the Venture, where Tech Jacket also joins the crew. Cecil and Donald watch the ship leave orbit, noting that Earth is Viltrumite-free for the first time in over twenty years. During the voyage the warriors bond, but Tech Jacket's sensors trip just as the engine begins to fail, and Telia orders the ship's rear blown off, scattering the team into open space where a Viltrumite force awaits.

The attackers are Kradd, Lucan, and a returning Conquest, who mocks Mark for failing to finish the job the first time. Oliver lunges at Conquest and Lucan closes on Mark while Allen and Tech Jacket tangle with Kradd. Conquest taunts Mark about Eve being the only reason he survived their last fight, provoking a relentless assault. When Oliver struggles to breathe in the vacuum, Omni-Man sends him toward a nearby planet, and Conquest gives chase.

Mark tackles Conquest into the planet's surface and clamps a chokehold on him, even biting off his thumb, while Conquest pounds him bloody. Turning purple, Conquest carves a hole through Mark's abdomen and begins pulling out his guts, yet Mark refuses to release him. Conquest suffocates and dies as his hand goes limp. Omni-Man and Oliver rush over to find Mark collapsed atop the corpse, barely conscious and quietly begging for help.

Aboard the fleeing warship, Thaedus assures a conflicted Telia she made the right call and declares the war has begun. In a post-credits scene, Allen and Tech Jacket hide beneath the enemy cruiser and bond over its stash of video games. The fifth episode of the fourth season, and the twenty-ninth overall, its title comes from a line Nolan speaks in the comics. Conquest's death makes Invincible the second-strongest Viltrumite by rank, and the installment marks Nolan's first reunion with Debbie since the first season. It later became the series' second-highest rated episode on IMDb, trailing only its third-season finale.
