Gelderians rank among the most scientifically gifted peoples in their corner of space, a humanoid race whose reputation rests on invention rather than muscle. Their best known creation is the layered combat suit that grants the hero Tech Jacket his powers. Beyond that engineering feat, recorded details about the species stay thin.

Vulnerability defines their situation. Because no Gelderian can physically stand against a Viltrumite, the race leaned on technology once the Viltrum Empire marked them for conquest. Their ruler turned to the Coalition of Planets for protection, and their engineers met the threat by building an exo-suit that lends its wearer boosted power, toughness, and fighting ability. That armor became their shield against a foe they could never match with bare hands.

The Gelderian Emperor heads the species and served as the figure who requested Coalition aid, with numerous unnamed citizens filling out the population. The group counts Thaedus and Allen the Alien among its friends while treating the Viltrum Empire as its central enemy. Observers have noted parallels between the Gelderians and the Reach of DC Comics, since both are feeble races that compensate with intellect, wear engineered suits, and share a greenish complexion. One Gelderian warrior in the show is voiced by Troy Baker.
