Guardians of the Globe

The Guardians of the Globe stand as the premier superhero team of their world, a lineup billed as the finest defenders alive. Their charge is to shield the Earth from every kind of danger, whether it rises from within humanity or descends from the stars. Though the Global Defense Agency sponsors them, the team ranges across the entire planet rather than guarding any single territory. As Black Samson once put it, they function less like a squad and more like a family, each member flawed in a way all their own.

The Guardians operate as the world's front line against catastrophe, dispatched wherever supervillains, monsters, or alien fleets threaten. Their history splits into a before and an after around a single atrocity: Omni-Man betrayed and butchered the entire founding lineup in one night, wiping out nearly every original member. Cecil Stedman then charged the deformed genius Robot with assembling a fresh generation, drawn largely from the former Teen Team. That second era brought its own turmoil, from Robot cloning himself a new body to a bitter rupture when the heroes discovered Cecil had planted a listening device in Invincible's head, driving several of them to walk out. The survivors reunited after the devastating Invincible War, though a later fourth Flaxan invasion swallowed Robot and Monster Girl into another dimension.

The original team gathered the Celtic warrior The Immortal as leader, alongside the gadgeteer Darkwing, the CEO turned warrior War Woman, the Russian speedster Red Rush, the undersea ruler Aquarus, the elastic exile Martian Man, and two bearers of the Green Ghost mantle. All of them fell to Omni-Man. The rebuilt roster placed Robot at its head with Black Samson, the explosive Rex Splode, the self-duplicating Dupli-Kate, the shapeshifting Monster Girl, and the size-changing Shrinking Rae. Later expansions welcomed the kinetic-absorbing Bulletproof, the Martian Shapesmith, and the shadow-walking Darkwing II. When The Immortal retired following the Invincible War, Cecil handed leadership to the utterly invulnerable Brit. The team draws obvious inspiration from DC's Justice League.
