Summary

Nagisa and friends visit a cafe where Yuma Isogai quietly works, his gracious manner drawing loyal regulars despite his poverty. Korosensei enjoys the cake enough to overlook the rule Isogai is breaking, and the students simply call him a good guy. Then the Big Five arrive on a tip, and Gakushu Asano is stunned that Isogai still flouts the very rule that dropped him into Class E. Outside, Isogai begs for silence, citing his family's money troubles.

Asano agrees on one condition: Class E must face Class A in pole-felling at the coming sports festival, with Isogai's expulsion riding on the result. Isogai first offers to accept his punishment alone, but his classmates refuse, eager to strike back at the elitists who scorn them, and talk him into fighting. Karasuma, recalling the game from his Defense Academy days, notes that on the field it plays out like war rather than assassination.

Key Events

Class E's honed training carries several track and field wins before the boys' pole match begins. Class A holds both a numbers edge and four muscular foreign exchange students. Rather than charge, Class E locks into a tight defensive ring they call Absolute Defense Form. When Asano sends the American student Kevin's group in, Yoshida and Muramatsu break rank and get thrown, but the class counters by leaping onto the attackers and pinning them with the pole's weight, exploiting the absence of any rule against it.

Asano orders flanking attacks, and Isogai's team feints toward a gap only to be nearly encircled, then uses superior mobility to scatter Class A near the stands. The distraction lets Yoshida and Muramatsu, who faked their earlier fall, sneak around and assault Class A's pole. Korosensei, having coached Isogai on Hannibal's unconventional tactics against larger Roman armies, watches the plan unfold. Nagisa leads a fresh wave while Kevin's group stays idle without Asano's order, and Itona is launched atop the enemy pole, riding its instability to topple it for a stunning Class E victory. Afterward chairman Gakuho Asano berates and then brutally thrashes the four exchange students to make a point, recalling his own harsh karate lessons, while Isogai secures his reprieve.
