Time After Time settles the fates left open after the assassination. Yanagisawa survives but is left broken, the 3-E campus is shuttered, and the moon quietly crumbles. A seven-year jump then shows the grown students returning to their old hilltop classroom.
Yanagisawa lives through his trip into the Shield of Earth but ends up permanently crippled, and the authorities rule his antimatter work too hazardous for any military or civilian use, shelving it for good. Kayano still holds a faint wish that he might someday accept how everyone depends on others to survive. Meanwhile, charges that Kunugigaoka put its pupils in danger and ran the Class E system unethically shut the campus down and push Chairman Asano to step aside. Clearing out his office, he is warmed to see Nagai and Mori, two of his earliest students, and raises a toast with them to whatever comes next.
Handed the bounty, the class first daydreams about spending it, then recalls their teacher's warning against leaning on money alone. They keep only enough for their schooling, give a portion to Matsukata's nursery, and return the remainder to the state. Overhead, the crescent moon slowly caves under its own weight, mirroring the assassination classroom's end.
Seven years on, Karasuma, now wed to Irina, sends her off on an assignment to the Middle East. When her teasing fails to rattle him, he remarks that her nature has not shifted in all that time and wonders how his former students are faring. Kayano, back working in show business, takes a moment to pray at the old grounds and runs into most of the class, all grown up. As they tidy the site together, she decides they need no grave for Aguri or Korosensei, since neither feels truly gone. After hearing how Okano and Kurahashi have turned the mountain into training and tour spots, Kayano hopes one particular person will make use of the campus one day.
The twenty-three page chapter belongs to the twenty-first volume, Time to Say Thank You. Its Japanese title, Sariyuku jikan, points to time slipping away. It follows Time for Tears and sets up Killing Time.
