Doug Cheston is a wealthy, entitled college student in Invincible's first season whose life ends in tragedy after D.A. Sinclair abducts him. Rebuilt into a mindless ReAnimen, he rampages across campus until a horrified glimpse of his own mutilated form drives him to take his own life.
Before his abduction, Doug looks like an unremarkable young man enjoying campus life. Sinclair's experiments leave him grotesquely altered, his flesh partly swapped for machinery, one arm turned robotic and his mouth ruined after his vocal cords are cut out. As a finished ReAnimen he becomes a hulking, masked cyborg with nothing human left in his bearing.
The version of Doug seen before his capture is crude and entitled, the pampered heir to a pharmaceutical fortune. He boasts about the wealth coming his way, crudely propositions women who reject him, and mouths off even while strapped down in Sinclair's lab, dismissing his captor as a loser.
Doug's father owned Cheston Pharmaceutical and part of Upstate University. After drunkenly harassing a group of women who spurned him, Doug was struck from behind and hauled off by D.A. Sinclair, who promised to remake him into a fearless explorer. He woke bound among other cyborgs in a basement, staring at his newly mechanical arm; when he refused to stay silent, Sinclair sliced open his throat and tore out his voice.
Later a blast on campus unleashed the transformed Doug, who lashed out at everyone nearby in his panic. He seized Rick Sheridan, then turned on William Clockwell after William pelted him with cans, and nearly strangled him to death. Alerted by Amber Bennett, Mark arrived as Invincible and broke the hold. Their brawl ended when Invincible ripped away Doug's mask; catching his reflection in a fountain, Doug shrieked in horror at what he had become and impaled himself on the campus sundial.
