Beach Boy

Beach Boy is the Stand of Pesci, a member of the assassination team in Vento Aureo, the fifth part of the series. It looks utterly harmless, taking the form of an ordinary fishing rod with its name printed along the top, a detail the anime leaves off, and a grisly skull serving as its reel to signal the death it deals. Pesci calls it forth straight out of his palm. The rod reads as dull metallic grey in the colored manga, while the anime paints it deep blue with a pink line.

For all its innocent shape, Beach Boy is lethal at any distance, and its most feared trait is a hook and line that slip clean through solid matter, be it a wall or a body. Pesci probes for a hidden target through any obstruction, sets the hook the instant it touches flesh, then either drags the catch in, thrashes the hook to shred them apart, or, as he prefers, threads it into a vital organ to cut the kill from the inside. He can also tuck the hook inside an object to ambush the unwary. The rod's raw pulling power is limited to Pesci's own arm strength, yet a hooked victim exhausts themselves straining against the highly elastic line, and the whole ability collapses at once if he lets go of the rod, recalling the hook and line to their source.

The line doubles as an exquisitely sensitive instrument, feeding readings back to the handle so Pesci can count how many people fill a room, feel a distant heartbeat, and, by weighing the tug and tremor of the line, name which body part he has snagged along with the catch's weight, stance, and movements down to the centimeter. Its most vexing property is that the string cannot be broken by normal force; any harm meant for it rebounds onto whoever is hooked instead. Since the line only phases through things, the shock of an attack still passes into the catch's body, and if another Stand damages the string, that Stand's effect strikes the victim rather than the line. The one clear opening is an enemy able to seize the rod itself.

Pesci wields Beach Boy, and though his early timidity blunts its menace, his growing nerve turns it into a weapon deadly enough to challenge Bruno Bucciarati head on, who judged it an even graver threat than Prosciutto's Grateful Dead. He uses it to reel in Guido Mista like a caught fish and to hunt Bucciarati through the walls of a moving train, aiming always for the heart that the intangible hook can pierce from within.
