Overview

Giorno Giovanna fights with Gold Experience, a slender humanoid Stand of roughly his own height. Its helmet-like crown recalls a soldier's headgear crossed with a ladybug, curved J-shaped lines run down from the eyes, small wings sit on the shoulders, and ladybugs cover the body to echo the emblems on Giorno's own outfit. Araki grounded the design in the scarab beetle, an ancient Egyptian symbol of creation, in ladybugs as a sign of regeneration, and in angel wings standing for peace. Most media color it gold, and near the climax of Vento Aureo it is pierced by the Arrow and evolves into Gold Experience Requiem.

Mechanics

As a close-range Stand reaching about two meters, Gold Experience punches with only roughly a human's strength, yet it moves fast, wrecks cars and motorcycles easily, and above all carries an extraordinarily versatile gift. Its core power is the generation of endless life energy, which it channels through its fists into whatever it strikes. Pressed into an inorganic object, that energy turns the thing into a living creature of Giorno's choosing, whether a plant or an animal, and he can just as freely undo the change. Plants form almost instantly while animals take a beat longer, the delay scaling with how large and complex the creature is. Once he makes an animal, though, it lives by its own will, so he can only guess its behavior, and creatures born from a piece of a larger whole instinctively try to return to their source. Life cannot be created where the environment is utterly hostile, such as the extreme cold of White Album, and anything made inside a deadly substance adapts to survive it. Crucially, striking any of these creations rebounds the damage onto the attacker, as Luca learned when his shovel blow to a frog smashed his own head instead.

Life energy poured into something already alive works differently. It violently accelerates the target's mind, so they perceive everything else crawling in slow motion, but their body cannot match that mental speed and is left nearly helpless, which is what threw Bruno Bucciarati into an out-of-body state. That same acceleration sharpens pain to an excruciating degree over what feels like a far longer stretch. Giorno can also drive this energy the opposite way, speeding a living thing's metabolism to age and rot it, as he did to wither a tree. Building on ideas he took from Baby Face, he further learned to shape organs and flesh from inorganic matter and graft them onto the wounded, which he stresses is replacement rather than true healing, and a painful process at that.

The Stand can even briefly reanimate the dead. A corpse infused with life energy returns with the person's memories and character, keeps any Stand it once had, but lacks breath, heartbeat, and the ability to feel pain, leaving it immune to powers that only affect the living. Since the body remains dead and decaying, it steadily weakens and loses its senses over time. Finally, Giorno's mastery over life lets him sense it directly, perceiving living things as clusters, checking whether someone is alive, and counting how many souls occupy a given vessel.
