Anivoice

Character

Koji Koda asks, and the animal kingdom answers. Anivoice turns a spoken request into a command any creature within earshot will follow, which makes a shy boy into a hero with wings, claws, and antennae on call. The stone head he was born with is part of the package, and it is still growing.

Overview

Rendered as Ikimono Boisu, this Mutant-type Quirk belongs to Koji Koda and to his mother before him. It surfaces in Chapter 66 and reaches screens in Episode 36. Speech is the whole delivery system: creatures inside vocal range hear the request and act on it.

Physical traits come bundled in. The Quirk shapes its holder a rock-like head, and later horns, which stretch how far the voice carries. The manga marks Anivoice dialogue with its own wavy-edged speech bubble.

Breadth is what makes Koda valuable rather than raw force. Insects burrow and strike from below unseen, birds cover reconnaissance from altitude with sharp eyes, and every species adds something else. His comprehension runs one way for the most part; he gathers a rough sense of what animals convey without holding anything resembling detailed conversation.

Mechanics

Range answers to training. Vocal exercises widened the reach of his commands until he could direct creatures from a considerable distance. The Final War pushes it further still: his head splits open along cracks, horns emerge, and the ability gains reach plus outright telepathic contact with the animals he calls. The anime lights those horns green whenever the telepathy engages.

Boundaries are firm. A creature outside his vocal range hears nothing, humans sit outside the effect entirely despite being animals themselves, and anything artificial built to mimic a real animal ignores him.

Sound is the weak seam. Louder noise, particularly a sound-based Quirk such as Voice, stands to wreck the effect by burying his words or by frightening the nearby wildlife off. Silence him and the Quirk goes with him.

Notable Users

Koda is the Quirk's public face, and his mother shares it. He never orders animals around so much as asks politely, and every plea has been granted so far. That rapport may itself be an extension of the ability.

Ahead of the Provisional Hero License Exam he added a voice amplifier to his Costume, worn across the jaw, which stretched his audible range enough to marshal large numbers at once. Bugs unsettle him personally, which gets in the way of talking to them, though Anivoice works on insects exactly as well as on anything else. His Ultimate Moves lean on that: Hitchcock Birds throws up a swarm of birds to distract or blind a target, while Bugging Out buries opponents under insects.

The Quirk answered to a different name during development. Volume 9 omake material calls it Dolittle, a nod to Doctor Dolittle, before later releases settled on Anivoice.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Quirk Anivoice do?

Anivoice lets Koji Koda speak a request that any animal within earshot will follow, essentially giving him command over nearby wildlife. Insects, birds, and other creatures each contribute something different, from sneak attacks to aerial reconnaissance.

What does Anivoice mean?

Anivoice is rendered in Japanese as Ikimono Boisu, meaning roughly "living thing voice." It was originally called Dolittle in early material, a nod to Doctor Dolittle, before the series settled on the name Anivoice.

Who has the Anivoice Quirk?

Anivoice belongs to Koji Koda, a Class 1-A student in My Hero Academia, and to his mother before him. It is a Mutant-type Quirk that also gives Koda a rock-like head and horns.

What are the limits of the Anivoice Quirk?

Anivoice only works on animals within vocal range, so creatures too far away hear nothing. Humans are unaffected despite technically being animals, and artificial creatures built to mimic real ones ignore the command entirely.

What are Koji Koda's named techniques with Anivoice?

Koji Koda's Ultimate Moves built on Anivoice are Hitchcock Birds, which throws up a swarm of birds to distract or blind a target, and Bugging Out, which buries opponents under insects.
