His head is a slab of rock, irregular and tapering to a point above a square jaw, with thick hair-like growths sloping down from the back of it. The body beneath is tall, broad, and heavily built, and his skin is peach. What sharpens into spiky protrusions during the Final War turns out to be horns inherited from his mother, and they keep growing over the following years along with the rest of him.

At school he puts on the regulation boys' outfit, a gray blazer trimmed in turquoise over a white shirt, blue-green trousers, a red tie, and brown shoes. His hero costume is a snug yellow suit cut off at the knee and above the elbow, marked with a broad red panel across the torso and matching cuffs, an open-mouth emblem on the chest, and red-accented yellow shoes. Before the Provisional Hero License Exam he added shoulder straps, yellow boots, and a full-face mask shaped like a duck's bill, perforated at the mouth so his commands still carry. The later version trades the straps for a yellow jacket and adds a cat-buckled brown belt plus a small black mask.

The build promises a bruiser and delivers the opposite. He is shy to the point of near silence, favoring sign language over speech, and Kyoka Jiro spent long enough assuming he was mute that hearing his voice startled her. Fumikage Tokoyami rates him an excellent keeper of secrets. Violence repels him.

Animals are where he relaxes. He keeps a rabbit named Yuwai-chan, which his female classmates renamed Kawaii-chan, decorates his room with animal dolls, and reaches creatures in ways nobody else can. He also loves bunnies while being faintly scared of Mirko. Insects are the exception to all of it. Entomophobia hits him hard enough that spotting one sends him screaming, and he still reached for a swarm at the Joint Training Battle, where he and Eijiro Kirishima needed one to bring down Jurota Shishida.

U.A. wore the timidity down. He grew louder and more willing to step in, and by the Final War he and Mezo Shoji were the ones holding the line at Central Hospital against the raiding heteromorphs. Watching Takaie Kanigumo try to bait Mezo produced something rare, real anger, and it awakened his Quirk. The reason surfaced there too: his father had told him never to stand down when people mock the people he cares about.

Anivoice makes any real animal obey a spoken order, whatever the species, provided the creature can actually hear him. Something merely animal-shaped does not qualify. The instruction is carried out exactly, and the traffic runs both ways, since he can pull information back from animals to locate people faster. Vocal drills stretched his range until distance stopped mattering much, and once his horns came in during the Final War he could push thoughts and feelings out further than his voice reaches.

The versatility is the whole argument for him. Insects burrow and ambush; birds fly and see, which makes them scouts, screens, and weapons by turns. His named moves reflect the split. Bugging Out drowns a target in insects, while Hitchcock Birds throws up a flock to blind an opponent or batter one. He beat his fear of bugs somewhere along the way and now reaches for them freely.

The record backs it up. He and Kyoka Jiro were fielded against Present Mic for the First Term Final Exam. He opened the Provisional Hero License Exam by sending a flock through students from rival schools. In round one of the Joint Training Battle, his combined assault with Eijiro Kirishima forced Jurota Shishida to dodge rather than push through, and Jurota promptly decided to take him off the board first. On Nabu Island his birds got Mezo to Mahoro and Katsuma Shimano before Nine could. Wash noticed all of this and took him on as an intern, which did as much for his communication as for his combat. He is also stronger than he looks: seized and dragged off by Jurota in his Beast form, he still made the trip difficult for a man with monstrously augmented strength.
