Namua

Namua cuts an imposing figure: a tall, powerfully built man with a shaved scalp, pale skin, and thick lips. A pair of grey ring tattoos, left over from his imprisonment, wrap around his right upper arm. His clothing is a white shirt and trousers layered under green robes, each sleeve bound by three green bands, with a dark green sash knotted at the waist and his lower legs wrapped in cloth above grey sandals.

In his old life Namua is brutal and grasping, cutting others down out of dread that they will kill him first. A priest's gift of food sets him on a different course, and he grows into a disciplined ascetic who stays composed and freely owns his failings. Captivity he simply spends in quiet meditation. Compassion drives him now, pushing him to save others from looming death and leaving him revolted by cruelty in anyone else, even as the remembered screams of those he murdered surface whenever he shuts his eyes and steal his sleep. His will proves firm enough to shrug off a jutsu that seizes control of his body.

Long ago Namua lives as a shinobi who robs and murders anyone he can in a frantic bid to stay alive, until he is finally caught and locked away in the Northern Penitentiary. Starving there, he nearly kills a priest to take the scrap of food the man is sharing, but the honest warmth in the priest's gaze stops him cold and turns him toward a selfless life. His shinobi background leaves him a capable taijutsu fighter, tough enough to brace a collapsing ceiling and to survive a pair of slashes across his back.

Aboard the Thunder Train, he and the rest of the passengers are seized by Oga and driven through five trials meant to test whether they can dodge death. Again and again Namua backs Boruto and the group, boosting people up a ladder, sharing the candles that stand in for their lives, and helping smash through blocked floors and gates. When Rokuro outs him as a former convict, he admits his past outright, and once Rokuro's jutsu hijacks his body, the warmth in Boruto's eyes calls the priest back to mind and lets him snap the control and cover Boruto. He offers to hold a gate open as atonement, and after the whole trial is revealed as a genjutsu built around the true Oga, he wakes overjoyed to begin his fresh start at last.
