Deathbone was a clandestine sect that set itself against the Saints, seeking to free the imprisoned Cruel Dragon by gathering the sealing orbs that bound it. Its members claimed the ancient beast's blood ran in their veins, marking them as its descendants.
Rendered in Viz releases as Deathborn, this hidden order pursued a single aim: to break the seals holding the Cruel Dragon and loose the ancient monster upon the world. The Sealing Orbs that caged the creature were their target, and they stood in open opposition to the Saints. Followers regarded themselves as blood kin of the Dragon, insisting its lineage flowed through them.
To the eye, a typical recruit passed for an everyday person, though in the field they donned head-to-toe garb styled after a ninja. Daggers and a kusarigama, the chained sickle much like the one wielded by the hero Chain'n'toad, made up their arsenal. Rising above the rank and file were nine elite warriors gifted with the power to turn into monsters, a transformation that vastly amplified their strength. Rangor counted among these nine.
Their downfall unfolded in the Cruel Dragon Arc. When a Saints convoy hauling one of the nine seals came under assault by Rangor and his followers, Saitama wandered into the scene and, framing it as nabbing a thief, swiftly put Rangor down. A captured member taunted the hero, vowing the group would still resurrect the Dragon. Rather than let a feud already eight centuries old drag on, Saitama used the prisoner's aid to round up every seal within one day, roused the Cruel Dragon himself, and destroyed it for good.
The group's leadership was never revealed. Its most prominent figure was Rangor, one of the nine chosen fighters able to assume monstrous form, who led the raid on the Saints convoy before Saitama defeated him.
