Nana Asahina works as a shutterbug for a gossip-driven tabloid in the classic anime, styled in throwback seventies fashion. Kunzite twists her into the youma Oniwabandana so she can find out whether the Guardians are truly splitting apart, a breakup the girls themselves staged as a trap.
Her wardrobe leans hard into retro seventies flair. Platform heels raise her stride, an oversized orange vest hangs loose over flared bell bottoms, and a strip of cloth is knotted across her forehead as a headband.
Every inch the scandal-sheet reporter, Nana is nosy to a fault and refuses to let a promising rumor drop. She keeps pressing for comment and film even when her subjects clearly want nothing to do with her, chasing the whiff of a scoop wherever it leads.
That single-minded hunt for a headline is exactly what makes her a useful pawn. Beryl and Kunzite exploit her appetite for a story, steering her toward the exact intelligence they want gathered.
Kunzite converts the photographer into the spying youma Oniwabandana and orders her to confirm whether the Guardians are genuinely disbanding. She catches the girls' opening quarrel and passes the report to Beryl, who tells her to keep watching. To draw the heroines out, she robs the Jewelry OSA-P store, then slips back into her human guise to film the resulting squabble and introduce herself.
She tries to interview Usagi and Naru about the alleged rift, but both brush her off. Usagi later hands her a note supposedly from Sailor Moon declaring an intent to defect to the Dark Kingdom, and a midnight meeting is arranged in a graveyard.
At the cemetery Kunzite senses the other Guardians hidden nearby and reads the plan as a rescue attempt for Endymion. When negotiations for the Silver Crystal collapse, he commands Oniwabandana to throttle Sailor Moon, gambling that the rest will break cover. The girls reluctantly do so to save Usagi. Oniwabandana then battles them with duplicates of herself before Fire Soul distracts her, and the Moon Stick restores her humanity. A genuine argument promptly erupts between Moon and Mars, prompting Nana to ask once more if they are breaking up, and the exasperated girls bring the whole episode full circle.
