Her cheerful answer, plus a worried question about earning a Tonitrus for insufficient fun, flusters him; he had braced himself to console a girl already carrying two demerit bolts, and she has apparently forgotten them entirely. Anya, reading his mind, hastily performs a little worry to secure her sweets, then mentions she now stockpiles handkerchiefs after her last punishment.

Henderson launches into his philosophy: preparedness and grooming are the scaffolding of elegance, and Donna Schlag's severity exists to keep comfortable students from going slack. Anya's blank response, followed by a garbled attempt to pretend she understood, horrifies him. When she asks whether discipline earns Stellas, he recognizes her Imperial Scholar ambitions and asks what drives them. Concealing Loid's mission, she claims the stars simply look cool, which strikes him as shallow, especially since her admissions interview had cited wanting to emulate the headmaster, a statement she no longer remembers.

Rather than scold her further, Henderson leads her to Eden's gallery of its most distinguished graduates, every one an Imperial Scholar, and describes the sweat behind each portrait. Something clicks for Anya, who connects steady daily effort to her father's mission and asks whether she could someday hang there too. Henderson declines to answer, telling her that each student must settle that question alone and that there is no hurry.

Tea cakes delivered as promised, Anya bolts before he can review her failed quiz, racing home for the cartoon Spy Wars. There she notices how drained Loid and Yor look, and their overheard thoughts reveal the weight of their hidden jobs. Freshly resolved, she requests a study session with her father, an act so out of character that Loid assumes another Tonitrus and nearly faints into Yor's arms.

A bus delay leaves Anya alone after school, and Henderson enlists her help carrying supplies in exchange for tea cakes, opening an extended one-on-one conversation between the two.

Henderson shows Anya the hall of fame honoring Eden Academy's Imperial Scholar graduates, reframing the Stella from a shiny prize into the product of long, disciplined work.

Anya internalizes the lesson after sensing how exhausted her parents are from their secret occupations, and she voluntarily asks Loid to help her study, stunning him.
