Achtung Baby

Achtung Baby belongs to Shizuka Joestar and appears in Diamond is Unbreakable. Because it is tied directly to the baby's body rather than manifesting on its own, it has no form to speak of. On paper the ability sounds valuable, but in practice its owner is a helpless infant who has not yet learned to command it, which makes the Stand more of a liability than an asset.

The Stand's function is to make Shizuka invisible. Its activation tracks her emotional state, hinting that it works as a defense reflex. When she is calm she stays unseen by default, and when she is startled the range widens, wrapping anything close by in the same invisibility, whether that is Joseph's cradling hands, her carriage, or even the ground. At full strength the effect reaches across a radius of several feet.

Objects hidden this way stay invisible even after leaving the Stand's range, as shown by a carriage that trailed a line of things with pieces visibly missing. The concealment is not perfect, though: anything cloaked can still be located by the sound or smell it gives off, which is how Joseph noticed the baby after she soiled his hand. Once Shizuka settles, everything she rendered invisible returns to view.

Shizuka Joestar is the only user. Araki has admitted he devised the Stand mainly to give Josuke and Joseph a bonding adventure. The name draws on the German word Achtung, meaning caution.
