Atom Heart Father

Atom Heart Father belongs to Yoshihiro Kira and appears in Diamond is Unbreakable. Rather than a figure, it is a power tied to a dark Polaroid camera and the photographs it prints, so it has no form of its own. Formidable once it is set up, the Stand carries one glaring flaw: anyone at all can pick up the camera it depends on, which is exactly how Jotaro eventually undoes it.

The camera produces photographs with a set of extraordinary traits. Chief among them is that they reveal Yoshihiro's ghost, ordinarily unseen by human eyes; in fact he exists only inside the pictures and is the sole thing able to move within them. With a close-up shot he can extend his head and arms out to touch the world, and he can tuck objects such as the Arrow inside the photos or send them floating about. He can also interact with anything captured in the photographed area, even placing a phone call from within a picture.

Whatever happens inside a photograph is forced onto reality: were Yoshihiro to stab a subject in the picture, the same blade would erupt from a nearby drawer to strike them. Two further traits shield the ability. The photos cannot be destroyed to break the power, since damaging them inflicts matching wounds on those pictured, and the photographed area becomes a sealed space, trapping anyone inside behind an invisible wall while redirecting anyone outside who tries to enter.

The one weakness is the shared camera. Jotaro turns this against the Stand by photographing Yoshihiro alone and smashing the camera, cutting off whatever was meant to unfold in the old picture and locking the ghost inside a tiny frame, unable to use his power again. The supernatural photo can last indefinitely, but destroying the one holding Yoshihiro would banish his ghost forever.

Yoshihiro Kira is the sole user, acting entirely as a ghost. Araki drew the concept from superstitions about photographs capturing spirits and a Meiji-era belief that a camera could steal the soul of whoever it photographed.
