Rolling Stones

Most of the time this Stand simply resembles a plain rock, though it reshapes itself to mirror whoever it has marked, turning up beside them either as a sphere stamped with the character 凶, a symbol of misfortune and bad luck, or as a curled stone figure. Unlike many Stands it can be seen by regular people; a bystander once watched a woman clutch it as she leapt from a building to her death. Colored manga renders it black, while the anime gives it a stony grey.

It carries no cruelty, since all it does is reveal a person's destined death, yet the strange kindness of ending them on the spot still makes it deeply dangerous. Because Scolippi cannot command or stop the Stand, it operates entirely on its own.

The Stand fixes on someone fated to die soon and then trails them without pause, blinking in and out of view or gliding along by itself, and it can slip through floors and walls to move unseen until it finally makes contact. As it pursues the target it slowly crumbles, and the person's shape emerges on its surface, staging a preview of exactly how they are doomed to perish no matter how distant that day may be. Once the target lays hands on it, they die serenely and without a visible mark, spared any suffering.

Scolippi wonders whether smashing the Stand or warping its form might rewrite the outcome, but even the resulting dust reassembles into the same prediction, so the fate it shows cannot be altered; breaking it does, however, stop the pursuit. Anyone standing near the Stand who has not been carved inside it is safe and not destined to die, which is why Mista's gun jammed when he aimed at Scolippi and why Mista walked away unharmed after a leap from a building. Should a person who is not the target touch it, phrases such as "Please kill me" surface across their skin. The Stand draws its power from fate itself and drifts under its own control.

Rolling Stones belongs to Scolippi, an artist whose comrades sculpt fate the way Michelangelo spoke of freeing a statue already hidden within the marble, the very idea that inspired the ability. It takes its name from the English rock band The Rolling Stones, and its English localization renders it as Prophecy Stones.
