Caesar Anthonio Zeppeli

Caesar is a handsome, muscular young man with untidy hair and two colored birthmarks, one on each cheek, that count among his most recognizable features. His good looks let him charm women almost effortlessly. Completing the picture is his trademark headband, a long thin strip patterned with a row of interlocking triangles and set with a pair of feathers on either side of his head.

Caesar is hot-blooded yet focused, wholly committed to the war against the Pillar Men. Abandoned as a boy, or so he believed, he grew into a bitter and violent delinquent, until his father died saving him and turned his hatred into fierce pride in the Zeppeli name. He first appears as an arrogant Ripple master who mocks Joseph Joestar's clumsy technique at every turn, but he proves honorable underneath, and once Joseph shows his own worth their rivalry warms into deep friendship.

His quick temper is his defining flaw. He rushes into fights he knows are unwise, once striking Joseph merely for dismissing their bloodlines, and that recklessness costs him his life when he charges Wamuu's lair alone. Even so, his determination is bottomless; fatally wounded, he keeps fighting and delivers a ringing tribute to the human spirit with his last breath. A famous ladies' man, he woos beautiful women with grand romantic gestures, sparing only his teacher Lisa Lisa, whom he reveres like his own mother.

In battle Caesar channels the Ripple through a soap-like substance loaded into his gloves, letting him release bubbles at will and charge them with energy to form deadly projectiles, from his Bubble Launcher barrage to slicing Bubble Cutters and light-focusing Bubble Lenses. Born with the Ripple through his grandfather's line, he can even push it through a kiss to hypnotize.

As a child Caesar worshipped his father, Mario Zeppeli, but when Mario vanished without explanation, leaving him and his siblings orphaned after their mother's earlier death, the boy came to hate him. A scheming relative stripped the family of its savings, and Caesar spiraled into violence, landing in a brutal orphanage, then sleeping rough in Rome's slums, where he became a feared young thug who settled every brawl with a wrench, unaware his Ripple had already awakened.

At sixteen he spotted his father in Rome and tailed him meaning to kill him, following him into the passages beneath the Colosseum where the Pillar Men lay. Caesar unwittingly sprang Wamuu's trap, and Mario died shoving his son clear even without recognizing him. His hatred replaced by grief and a thirst for revenge, Caesar sought out Lisa Lisa at his father's dying wish and began learning the Ripple under her.

He meets Joseph in Rome, where a fountain duel shows off his superior skill, and after Joseph saves him and Speedwagon from the Pillar Men and takes the deadly wedding rings, Caesar resolves to make him stronger. The two train together on Lisa Lisa's island, scaling the oil-slicked Hell Climb Pillar and passing their trials, with Caesar saving Joseph from a fatal fall along the way. Pursuing Kars ahead of the group after an argument, Caesar is ambushed by Wamuu and nearly kills him, only to be struck down by the Holy Sandstorm. Drained of blood and Ripple, he tears the antidote to Joseph's last ring from Wamuu's lip piercing and seals it, together with his headband, inside a bubble of his own blood moments before a cross-shaped rock crushes him.

Wamuu names Caesar the strongest foe he ever faced, and even the composed Lisa Lisa breaks down at his death. Before his own chariot battle with Wamuu, Joseph dons Caesar's headband and later sets it ablaze alongside his oil to win, carrying his friend's spirit into victory.
