Personality

In her younger days Kiyomi made for a careless parent, phoning in sick to spend the hours at the beach instead. Her selfish streak ran deep enough that she resented Josefumi for keeping her from a beach party and, in one dark moment, weighed letting the sea take him.

Guilt won out and she dove in to save him, having already promised herself to grow more responsible. That rescue seems to have shifted things between them, since over the years she photographed him often and kept looking for him long after he vanished as a teenager.

History

Around 1991 in the S-City district of Morioh, Kiyomi wed Sadafumi Kujo and had a son, named Josefumi by her father after a name he read on a discarded geta sandal. The couple split while the boy was still a toddler, leaving Kiyomi with custody.

A beach outing turned grim when a phone call told her she had been fired over her constant absences, and moments later she watched the waves nearly carry Josefumi off. She hesitated, unwilling to give up her easy life, then rushed in to pull him out. Near death, the boy was treated and revived by Holy Joestar-Kira together with her son Yoshikage Kira, who afterward told Kiyomi she felt something beyond mere relief.

Life resumed, another child followed, and she went on documenting Josefumi in photographs. After the September 2011 earthquake and his disappearance, she kept up a fruitless search. Near TG University Hospital she briefly crossed paths with Yasuho Hirose, who returned her dropped phone; Josuke, recognizing his own mother, assumed she had forgotten Josefumi, but Yasuho found the phone full of his photos, proof she still cared.
