Mike O.

A dark-skinned man of medium build, Mike O. stands at roughly above-average height. His scalp is shaved apart from a curly tuft at the crown, and a light, winding design, painted or inked on, frames both eyes before sweeping up toward his forehead and across his cheekbones, tapering into spirals at each end.

He dresses in a bulky overcoat with a thick collar and a heavy braided cord running down the torso, finished with a neatly folded scarf and trousers studded with short spikes.

Grave and single-minded about his post, Mike O. treats protection as a matter of honor. Chasing a leak of Ringo Roadagain's message, he combed through more than a thousand files on staff and their relatives, and he took Hot Pants slipping into the building as a personal stain on that honor. The First Lady's death on his watch shakes him badly, and toward anyone endangering the President he turns coldly merciless, resolving to execute the intruders on the spot.

His investigative rigor and battlefield improvisation mark him as sharp, able to weld his Stand to nearby objects into lethal traps. He also carries an odd verbal tic, reaching again and again for the word meaning world in all its senses, from complaining that his body freezes up in this world to musing about the world of Stand users.

His Stand, Tubular Bells, molds metal into balloon-animal shapes, often out of long iron nails, that come alive to chase or burrow into a target before bursting and snapping back to their hard form. Mike O. steps in when Valentine orders him to find and kill the intruder aided by Mountain Tim, and he sets a pack of balloon-dogs to memorize the scent and guard the President's bedroom.

After a clash involving Scarlet Valentine and the treacherous balloon-dogs, Lucy barely escapes with pieces of the holy corpse. Sensing his dogs explode, Mike O. is puzzling over events when Hot Pants arrives to rescue Lucy. He converts the tin shutters into flying, exploding swans and lethal guillotines, lopping off Hot Pants' arm just before Cream Starter can reach him. A final strike misses and exposes both Lucy and the dead First Lady, and the shock of failing to protect Scarlet unhinges him. As he blows into his needles for one last assault, Hot Pants reveals she had sprayed tiny flesh particles into his lungs, and he destroys himself when they swell with too much air and rupture.
