Sorbet and Gelato

Fellow hitman Formaggio brands the two as psychopaths. Sorbet and Gelato are essentially inseparable, and that constant closeness fuels lasting speculation over how deep their relationship truly runs. Their choice to probe the Boss's identity on their own reads as either reckless overconfidence or genuine nerve.

The pair pay a horrific price for prying into who the Boss really is. Gelato is bound and made to watch as Sorbet is carved apart, then ends his own life by swallowing his gag rather than endure more of the terror. His corpse is discovered at his residence some time later, the gag still lodged in his throat and a slip of paper reading punishment set beside it. Over the following days, thirty-six preserved pieces of Sorbet are delivered to the assassins one at a time. In the anime, the executioners appear only in silhouette as Cioccolata brings down the axe and Secco records the whole thing.

Their killings deliberately echo The Godfather, in which Luca Brasi murders two rivals, one hacked apart while alive and the other swallowing his gag to escape a worse fate. The duo's look and the couple rumors also nod to the Australian pop act Savage Garden, whose members drew similar speculation. Within the story, Cioccolata's Stand, Green Day, provides a tidy explanation for how Sorbet's severed parts kept their shape before being sealed in frames.
