Wamuu

Wamuu towers as a colossal, heavily muscled figure, his veins often drawn straining at his limbs and his square face cut with high, sharp cheekbones. His fair hair is cropped flat on top beneath heavy brows, and a bold square outline is marked across his face, passing just below his nose bridge and rising through the center of each eye. Like other Pillar Men he can extend or retract a single large, drill-shaped horn from his forehead, framed by a metallic crown-like ornament that splits open at the front to release it, and he wears sizable earrings. Until his second bout with Caesar he also keeps a small ring on his lip holding the antidote to his Wedding Ring of Death.

Two things define Wamuu: a hunger for combat and a rigid sense of honor. He spares a helpless Joseph Joestar for nothing more than the chance to one day defeat him as a true Ripple warrior, and though he generally looks down on humans, he comes to respect those who fight seriously and fight well. He scorns Caesar Zeppeli for battling in a friend's name, yet honors Caesar's dying effort by leaving the stolen antidote untouched for Joseph. Non-combatants he ignores, and unlike his master Kars he cannot bring himself to harm children.

Wamuu is as harsh on himself as on anyone else, even inviting Joseph to strike him as punishment for once dropping his guard, and he bristles at being pitied. To purge fear or shock in battle he has trained an extreme reflex, plucking out his own eyes and relying on his wind-reading horn to perceive his surroundings. Above all stands his devotion to Kars and Esidisi, the masters who reared him since infancy; he obeys them faithfully while still judging their strengths and weaknesses clearly. One odd quirk sees him instinctively lash out at anyone who treads on his shadow, even his own masters.

Wamuu first drew breath roughly around 10,000 BC among the Pillar Men and, after Kars's massacre of their kind, was taken in as an infant alongside Santana and raised by Kars and Esidisi. Their hunt for a perfect Red Stone of Aja carried them to Rome, where clashes with Ripple users drove the three into a long hibernation beneath the Colosseum. When modern soldiers disturb their resting place, Wamuu wakes first, killing a Nazi with his horn and absorbing the rest by grafting their hands together, then rouses his masters.

As the trio set out for the Red Stone, Wamuu fatally wounds Mark by passing through him, and Caesar Zeppeli, forced to end his friend's suffering, attacks in vengeance only to be overpowered. Joseph Joestar then reveals himself with Ripple-charged clackers; amused, Wamuu bites his wrist to grant him a minute of life before the Divine Sandstorm can finish him. Joseph escapes on a mine cart and, playing to Wamuu's pride, wins a month's reprieve to master the Ripple and grow into a foe worth his effort. He agrees, lodging a Wedding Ring of Death within Joseph's heart to ensure he cannot flee, and reveals that the antidote sits in his own lip ring.

Later, in Switzerland, Wamuu intercepts Caesar in a duel that nearly kills him before he lands a point-blank Divine Sandstorm. As Caesar bleeds out, he tears the lip piercing free and seals the antidote within a bubble of his blood so Joseph can claim it; moved by the act, Wamuu leaves it untaken and declares Caesar worthy of being remembered. The final reckoning comes as a chariot race in the arena. Joseph counters the Divine Sandstorm by binding Wamuu's arms with Ripple-infused reins and tearing them apart, and the shock of losing his proudest technique drives Wamuu to gouge out his eyes and see by his horn instead.

Reduced at last to his ultimate Atmospheric Rift, Wamuu is undone when Joseph feeds him an oil bottle together with Caesar's still-burning headband; the flames erupt inside him and leave only his head, the Ripple slowly consuming it. When Joseph offers his own blood to ease the pain, Wamuu rages at the perceived pity until Joseph explains that it is honor, the same honor that made Wamuu spare Caesar's bubble. Spending what little power remains to wipe out vampires closing in on Joseph, Wamuu admits that even sworn to Kars he had always lived by his own code, asks Joseph to take the antidote, and crumbles to ash on the wind as Joseph salutes him.
