Spejo

This young woman is marked by bright yellow eyes and a short crop of green hair that barely reaches past her face. Her Deskunte heritage shows in her third eye, set vertically and bordered on both sides by organic markings. Horns once grew from her head, but she removed them herself in keeping with the Deskunte custom for women who come of age without becoming warriors. During the time the curse still held her, she dressed in a hooded cloak worn over a pale, high-collared coat whose long sleeves darkened at the elbow and paled below, finished with a dark dress reaching the floor.

Detachment and reserve define Spejo's manner, an echo of her brother's own coolness. That guarded front gives way only when Maru brings word that the Deskunte Chieftain's curse on her has been broken, at which point she breaks into a smile and offers sincere thanks.

Spejo entered the world on Simuria within the Deskunte Tribe, born beside her elder brother Dabura, and tribal politics soon made her a hostage. About two years earlier a Kalyan had slain the chieftain's daughter, and in answer the tribe demanded ninety percent of Rumel's land as reparations. Rumel's refusal brought a call for a duel, and to be certain Dabura would represent them, the chieftain laid a death curse on Spejo through his cursed technique, dangling her life to compel his fight. On the night following the duel she went with Dabura to meet the Rumelians and guide them toward the mul Dura had set aside for rebuilding Rumel. After Maru and Cross resonated their cursed techniques with the mineral to create the Naunax, Spejo quit Simuria at Dabura's side together with nearly fifty thousand Rumelians.

Roughly two years on, the Simurians made landfall on Earth, and through a chain of events Dabura came by the cursed tool Black Rope. Turning it on the death curse, he freed his sister at last. She gave Maru her gratitude for having made the freeing possible, and then his technique carried both siblings home to Simuria. Once back, the pair cornered the Deskunte Chieftain in his bedchamber. Bellowing for his guards, he warned that any move against him would kill Spejo, not knowing the curse was already undone, so she threw back her hood and mockingly told him to try. The truth dawning, the chieftain froze in horror moments before Dabura cut him down.
