Rin Itoshi

Rin is a tall teenager with a lean yet muscled frame, standing a touch taller than the slightly older Yoichi Isagi. A sweep of dark green hair falls across his face and largely over his right eye, and his narrow teal eyes are marked by the same striking lashes his brother Sae carries. As a boy he looked much the same, his features simply sharpening with age. Inside Blue Lock he wears the standard bodysuit and tracksuit, later pulling on Paris X Gen's long-sleeved strip and the Japan U-20 number ten.

As a boy, Rin idolized his older brother Sae and wanted nothing more than to match him, taking up football on Sae's advice and following his instructions without question. Even then a destructive streak ran through him: he loved smashing his own toys, and while watching a superhero film he fixated not on the hero but on the final villain, deciding it was magnificent to challenge a stronger foe, lose, and die. When Sae left for Spain, Rin found the game far harder alone, and in straining to fill his brother's shoes his instinctive play gradually gave way to a colder, analytical approach.

Once a warm captain to his middle-school side, Rin soured into someone distant, curt, and severe after his falling-out with Sae. He is obsessively devoted to football and deeply self-absorbed, forever putting his own ambition ahead of anyone else's and dismissing lesser talents as mediocre or lukewarm, mannerisms he absorbed by imitating his brother. He extends respect only to players who show genuine skill or impact, though by the Japan U-20 match he grows noticeably more talkative, trading instructions and words with Isagi in particular. Away from matches he keeps a strict daily conditioning routine, drilling and lifting to hone a body he pours every waking hour into, all in service of one aim: surpassing Sae and ending their rivalry.

Rin operates as a forward and playmaker, a striker whose vision and technique let him orchestrate an entire side while still finishing chances himself. His signature weapon is a kick of extraordinary accuracy; he can strike two balls onto crossing paths that collide in midair, and Isagi reckons he could score from almost anywhere inside thirty-five meters, off free kicks or even corners. That precision powers a deep catalogue of shots, from pinpoint free kicks and trivelas to jumping and blind strikes, though his output dips slightly off his weaker left foot. His technique is complete enough to captain, anchor a defense, and turn opponents' own strengths against them, and under Julian Loki's guidance during the Neo Egoist League his physique and aggression climbed to a new level.

Beyond finishing, Rin reads the whole pitch, tracking every position and movement to bait rivals into traps, intercept their plays, and drift into blind-spot scoring lanes, an analytical gift only Isagi can truly rival. For a time he leaned on a puppet-controlling style, manipulating teammates and enemies alike into engineered goals, until he unlocked his true self. His flow state fires when he feels the urge to destroy a strong opponent while risking his own life, giving rise to Pure Destruction, a savage, instinct-driven mode in which he draws out a rival's best weapon and dismantles them with it; he tore through Teppei Neru, Miroku Darai, and Kazuma Nio in quick succession this way. Late in the clash between Bastard München and Paris X Gen he evolved further still, awakening the Predator Eye that lets him shoot the instant he receives the ball.
