Air Cannon

Character

Air Cannon drives a shockwave of compressed air out of an open palm, and its shape follows the swing of the arm that fires it. Stolen by All For One from someone never identified and later inherited by Tomura Shigaraki, it became the pair's favorite way to open a fight from a distance.

Overview

Air Cannon, given in Japanese as 空気を押し出す and read Kūki o Oshidasu, is an Emitter Quirk with long reach. It enters the story in Chapter 90 of the manga and Episode 48 of the anime.

Its original owner is never named. All For One took the power from that person and made it a staple of his arsenal for decades, after which it passed to Tomura Shigaraki along with everything else in the collection.

Mechanics

The wielder forces a shockwave of air pressure out through an open palm, and the force behind it is devastating. What form the wave takes depends on how the arm moves as it releases: a tight, concentrated shot fired straight ahead, or a broad crescent that sweeps out like a blade.

Its real value lies in how well it stacks. All For One habitually ran it through Springlike Limbs, Kinetic Booster, and several Brawn Boost Quirks at once, at which point a single discharge leveled rows of buildings. That combination put down a group of Pro Heroes the first time it was used, though All Might, backed by One For All, could hold the enhanced wave off to a degree. In the final battle against All Might, he charged a blast in his right palm layered with Brawn Boost, Spring-ify, Rivet Stab, Impure Beam, and Dark Ball, then loosed the merged beam, engulfing the Symbol of Peace and wrecking a large stretch of the city.

Notable Users

All For One treated the Quirk as his opening move, wearing targets down with wild ranged fire before closing in to steal their powers, and he turned it defensively as well, batting away projectiles thrown his way. It failed him against Endeavor and Hawks when Kyoka Jiro's Heartbeat Wall stopped the shot cold.

Tomura inherited it and used it against Endeavor, both to attack and to raise barriers of air against the Flame Hero's fire. He also fed it through Radio Waves to produce a wide blast that knocked out the Heroes' communications, then combined Radio Waves and Heavy Payload with it against Star and Stripe, producing an enormous beam of electrical energy. Against Deku he leaned on it relentlessly, hammering him across the surface of the ocean like a skipped stone and chasing him the length of the country until he came down near the base of Mount Fuji. A later attempt was cut short when Deku drove a fist into his chest and forced Kudo and Gearshift into him, and once All For One had taken full command of Tomura's body, a final shot at the helpless Deku ended when Hanta Sero's Tape lassoed his arms and torso.

The Quirk closely resembles Air Wall, and the anime came to draw the two alike in later appearances. Its name is shared with a gadget from Doraemon, though that device fires a gust of air rather than a shockwave.
