Dupli-Arms

Character

Dupli-Arms gives Mezo Shoji a row of arm-like tentacles that can sprout copies of any part of his body: eyes, ears, mouths, hands. The duplicates emerge stronger and sharper than the originals, which makes him a formidable scout and, when he grows enough arms at once, a heavy striker.

Overview

Mezo Shoji carries Dupli-Arms, written Fukuseiwan in Japanese. It is classed as a Mutant Quirk with a range listed as variable, and it enters the story in chapter 11 and episode 8.

What it provides is a row of tentacles flanking his ordinary arms, each able to reshape itself into a duplicate of some other part of him. Pods sitting at the tip of every tentacle are where the new organs actually take form.

Mechanics

Any body part is fair game. Ears, eyes, mouths, hands, and more can be grown on demand, and several different kinds can be manifested simultaneously so their inputs stack. The results are not plain reproductions either. They come out as upgraded versions of the originals, which lifts both Mezo's strength and the acuity of his senses.

The pods themselves count as parts of his body, which means they can replicate each other. Chaining that self-duplication lets him extend a tentacle further and further. A single pod can also spin off several separate organs at once, though splitting it that way costs him control and blunts how well the duplicates perform.

The tentacles and everything grown from them remain ordinary flesh where injury is concerned. Enemy attacks damage them, and a severed replica is no permanent loss, though it is hardly free either. Mezo can grow the part back once the wound has healed, and the process hurts and takes time.

Notable Users

Mezo Shoji is the sole holder, and the Quirk shapes how he operates. Reconnaissance is its most natural fit. Eye replicas hand him a full 360 degree field of view, and ear replicas pick up sound through walls or from well beyond his position, which makes him a natural choice for spying and stakeout work. He also tends to speak through duplicated mouths, since a mask covers the lower half of his face. During training he threw out a rapid crop of tentacles tipped with eyes and ears to hunt down the invisible Toru Hagakure.

In a fight he leans on the strength multiplier. A single set of tentacle arms alone puts roughly half a ton behind his blows, and his back can hold more than one passenger without much strain. The webbing between the tentacles turns them into cover, shielding or concealing allies, and that same structure works as makeshift wings for short glides. They double as grappling hooks against walls, letting him climb considerably faster than he otherwise could.

His named techniques follow the pattern. Octosearcher raises a bank of eyes and ears at once for reconnaissance. Octoblow raises a bank of arms instead and answers with a barrage of punches. Octospansion reshapes an arm into an oversized fist and drives it into the target. The Quirk shares ground with Multiplier.
