Dai

A bowl cut sits over squarish dark gray eyes and features that stay soft rather than sharp. As a child his hair was black, scattered with gray spots of uneven size.

Eight years past the Final War the coloring has shifted. The hair reads teal gray, and the spots have gone white, grown larger, and arranged themselves into a tidy ring of eight. His middle school uniform is an orange-brown blazer over a white dress shirt and green tie, with beige slacks and white loafers, rendered gray in the anime.

Dai's admiration runs to the top of the profession: Deku and Dynamight, Shoto, Best Jeanist, Endeavor, All Might himself. He wants to be one of them, weak Quirk and all. Timid in a way that echoes Izuku's own middle school years, he shares the same reflex too, moving to help before he has decided to, whenever someone in front of him is in trouble.

He first appears at six, heading off to the start of first grade beside his mother. She asks whether he is ready to give it his best, they pass All Might's statue in Kamino, and the boy looks up, grips his Endeavor doll, and says yes.

Eight years later he is a third-year filling out a career goal form. The student next to him, aiming for U.A.'s Hero Course, spots that Dai has written the same answer and needles him for it: villain emergencies are down, Pro Hero numbers are being cut, and only strong Quirks will make it through. Walking afterward, Dai measures how much has changed since everyone wanted to be All Might, and decides he is the only one who never grew out of it. He ends up at the statue with the question.

Two boys race past and one trips. Dai moves without thinking, reaches for his saucers, and falls short. A man in a suit catches the child instead, then turns and asks whether Dai is alright. It is Deku. Over the afternoon Dai confesses that he cannot keep pace with a changing world on an unimpressive Quirk, which is why he came to ask a statue if he could be a hero. Izuku, reminded of his own version of that day, begins muttering through the possibilities aloud, comparing the saucers to Minoru's work, which unnerves and encourages Dai at once. A hand on the shoulder, a reminder that he had already reached out to save someone, and the verdict: he can be a hero. The Quirk itself throws white saucer-like discs from his hair, and he can change their size, fuse them together, or pile them up for extra force. It is the last Quirk the series introduces, and it never receives a name.
