Ending

The crosswalk motif runs through everything Ending wears. Parallel white bars march down the sides of his full-face mask, broken only by openings for his eyes and mouth, and the same striping repeats across his shirt and trousers in black and white bands. Over that goes a hooded jacket in blue, marked with matching pale lines. He stands at roughly average height on a thickly muscled frame, and what registers first is the face, a grin stretched far too wide beneath eyes with nothing steady behind them.

Fixation defines him. Ending latched onto Endeavor's ruthless, arrogant public image and built a sick devotion around it, convinced that the Flame Hero is the only person fit to end his life. Every act he commits is bent toward provoking that outcome, up to and including seizing Endeavor's son Natsuo purely to be noticed.

By his own reckoning, death is the sole choice a person genuinely owns, and he pursues it with no regard for who else gets hurt along the way. He likens himself to a Nomu, a puppet suspended between living and dying, and admits how deep his despair ran before Endeavor gave it a shape.

Years before his debut he watched Endeavor take down a thief named Takami. The arrest hauled him out of his despair and planted the obsession that would run the rest of his life. Endeavor eventually arrested him too, and prison held him for the next seven years.

Released at last, he catches a news segment on Endeavor's ascent to the top ranking after the Hood fight, and the sight delights him. Dabi quietly arranges an ambush for the Flame Hero and his work-study trainees. Ending dopes himself with Trigger, waits outside the Todoroki Abode, and grabs Natsuo off the street mid phone call with his girlfriend. He then plants himself on the highway and offers the hostage in exchange for his own execution, dragging the painted lane markings up around passing cars with Whiteline to inflate the body count if Endeavor stalls. His control is good enough to hold multiple lines, several vehicles, and a captive at once, though he dosed himself with a Quirk booster first.

Endeavor locks up instead of attacking, so the three interns move. Shoto funnels his flames into a single point to smother the assault, Katsuki compresses an Explosion into a burst of speed and tears Natsuo free, and Izuku catches the launched vehicles with Blackwhip before they can land on anyone. Shoto then closes in and encases most of Ending in ice. The capture disgusts him less than what follows: hearing Endeavor apologize to his son strips away the merciless idol he worshipped, and he protests that his light of hope is going out as the Police Force carries him off.
