Hana Shimura

Slanted, cat-like eyes in a dark brown shade angle inward toward the center of her face. Her dark hair is gathered into pigtails at either side of the head, with a fringe stopping partway down the forehead and a pair of thick strands hanging loose to the shoulders. The family resemblance in her runs toward her father's mother.

Her clothing is plain: a pale T-shirt trimmed with stripes at the collar and at the ends of the sleeves.

Play defines her. Hana adores Tenko, keeps hold of his hand, and reassures him that she is never far away. Heroes fascinate her as much as they fascinate him, and once she learns their grandmother wore the title, she talks about the two of them growing into a hero pair together.

That affection has a crack in it. Cornered by their father, she saves herself by pinning the discovery of Nana's photograph on Tenko even though she was the one who produced it, a lie born of terror rather than malice, since she knows exactly what punishment looks like in that house. Regret arrives immediately, and her attempt to apologize comes too late to stop what she has set moving.

She is born to Nao and Kotaro Shimura and grows up alongside her younger brother in a household shared with her maternal grandparents, Mako and Chizuo Magi. Her father's loathing of heroes is absolute and the subject is banned under his roof, yet Hana finds an old photograph of Kotaro standing with his mother, keeps it quiet for a time, then leads Tenko into the study to show him. Learning that Nana was a hero delights the boy, and Hana promises to chase the dream alongside him.

Kotaro finds out. Demanding a culprit, he reduces Hana to sobs, and she names her brother. The beating that follows comes with a speech: the woman in the picture is no grandmother but a monster who discarded her own child, and heroes are people who wound their families to rescue strangers. Nobody in the room moves to stop him, despite the boy's pleas.

Hana tries to apologize that evening. Instead she finds the family dog reduced to dust and runs screaming. Tenko catches up, his bare hand meets her, and the newly surfaced Decay Quirk disintegrates her with their mother's name on her lips. The rest of the household follows, leaving him the only survivor and starting him down the road into villainy; her hands endure only as trophies worn on the costume of the man he becomes. Her memory resurfaces when Re-Destro crushes that hand, returns as an apologizing vision after the heroes interrupt his All For One transfer, and manifests in the Shimura visage covering his left hand during the Final War, a mental defense he sheds once his Quirks return.
