Koichi Haimawari

Nothing about him stands out on the street: a slim build, short brown hair lying flat, and large round brown eyes. As a middle schooler he went around in a black gakuran with yellow buttons and white sneakers, and over it an All Might hoodie from the Silver Age costume line, which he gave away to a soaked child he pulled out of a river.

The hoodies became the costume. His first attempt at vigilante gear was skinny jeans, black shoes trimmed in red, a surgical mask, plain tactical gloves, and whichever All Might hoodie he felt like, usually the Golden Age one. Knuckleduster talked him into armoring up, so the hoodie went on over motorcycle padding at the chest, elbows, and knees, joined by red shoes and red-tinted shades in place of the mask. Because he owns a shelf of special editions in different colors and back prints, his silhouette shifts from job to job. The last of them, a black one, did not survive.

Number 6 opened his left cheek shortly before dying, and the scar stayed. His hero costume as the Skycrawler answers both men at once: a blue bodysuit shaped like the hoodies he wore for years and like the O'Clock II costume, silver shoulder armor along the same lines, upgraded gloves, a purple visor borrowed from Captain Celebrity's look, and a utility belt stamped SC.

He is mild, generous, and slightly off-frequency. Kindness comes out of him with no expectation attached, and he misses enough social cues that both his university classmates and the people he saves have quietly filed him under creep. Compliments regularly leave his mouth as insults. None of it is malice. He is just awkward.

Using his Quirk in public never troubled him, mostly because it was how he got to class and to work. Given a disguise or an empty street, he leaned into it: hauling away litter, returning what people dropped, giving directions, boosting commuters onto trains, filming for strangers. He cannot walk past someone who needs a hand, and the unglamorous half of the job never embarrassed him, because that is simply not the sort of person he is. Talking rather than swinging is his default, which is how his dealings with Naruhata's Three Sturm und Drang Brothers went, and he holds no grudges. Soga Kugisaki and the Next-Level Villains all tried to hurt him and all ended up under his protection.

All Might is the reason for any of it. The admiration goes back to childhood, and it lives in a closet full of limited-run hoodies that he mends whenever they tear. Mock one and the easy manner drops, as Kazuho found when she called a hoodie lame and Captain Celebrity found when he signed one uninvited. The captain was the only person Koichi ever truly disliked, for his ego and his behavior around Makoto, though the grudge faded as the man improved himself.

For a long stretch he assumed the dream was closed. He failed to get into a hero course, made peace with it, and figured he would retire from patrols once he graduated and found full-time work. When Kazuho floated the Provisional Hero License, he waved it off as too much effort, still convinced no registration was required to be useful. The restraint carried into fights. He held his repulsion blasts below lethal force on anything living regardless of the cost to himself, and he answered even Number 6's attempts on his life by voicing concern and offering help, which the villain could only read as an act. When it was over he announced his retirement and was immediately caught pulling on the hoodie Kazuho had given him.

Signing with Captain Celebrity took him to America as the Skycrawler, where his English was poor enough to have him announcing plans to smash up Wall Street and collecting a reputation nobody wanted for him. He did not much care. He was a hero at last, and after the Final War he came home to help the country recover.

Slide and Glide pushes a repelling force out of his hands and feet, letting him skate across any flat surface in any direction, backwards included, and up walls as readily as along the ground. It needs at least three limbs in play, though he eventually learns to emit the force from anywhere on his body, back included. He starts out roughly as quick as a bicycle and unable to stop safely. Training takes him past a speeding bus, and later far enough to react to Overclock. Tensei Ida gave him the trick that made him dangerous, braking with an opposing burst, which turned raw speed into hairpin control. He can now launch from a standstill, halt on the spot, and out-turn Ingenium, Number 6, and even Endeavor.

The rest of the Quirk arrived piecemeal. Palm bursts became energy blasts he calls the Shooty-Go-Blam, fireable almost continuously at about the force of a punch, or focused into a piercing shot precise enough to hit a bee at speed. He gauges the output with a homemade system, which is also why the blasts underperform on people. Force fields came next, strong enough to shrug off rocket punches and car-shredding explosions, projectable over a fingertip or the whole body. Floating was actually his first ability, used before he could walk and forgotten after his mother smacked it out of him; he has clawed a little of it back. Mid-air jumps turn his soles into thrusters, and while he believes two is his limit, sheer will has produced more.

What makes him a variant fighter is that his body frequently acts before he does. Blacking out mid-fight, he has rediscovered wall cling, force fields, and mid-air jumping, and his reaction time improves once conscious decisions leave the loop. Facing Number 6 at full Overclock, and then the Hi-Crawler form, his subconscious raised barriers at the last possible instant and read a flurry of claw strikes he had no business surviving.

Hand-to-hand is the weak column. He knows leg sweeps, has taken some training, and rarely bothers with either. His named techniques lean on the Quirk instead: Kowtow Evasion slides him backwards out of a kick while bowing, High-Speed Double Sweep hooks an opponent's legs out from under them, Scrappy Thrust Style fires bursts from a single concentrated limb, Slap Style counters at close range, Knuckle Style stacks force fields on his fist for four rapid hits, and Extra Oomph buys a short burst of speed. Even without any of it he once slipped Eraser Head using nothing but a grappling hook and an intimate knowledge of Naruhata's streets. He also sings, which Miu of Feathers rated halfway good.
