Chapter 5

The reunion happens where the training did. Takoba Municipal Beach Park now stands clear of junk, and All Might comes in person to congratulate Izuku on his acceptance. The praise carries a condition: One For All still has to be grown into before it can be used the way it should be. Then he goes.

Spring opens U.A.'s school year. Izuku's mother sends him off with good wishes, and he walks toward Class 1-A hoping that neither Katsuki nor the boy in the glasses will be behind the door. Both are. The bespectacled student introduces himself as Tenya Ida and offers a straight concession: Izuku read the practical exam correctly where he did not, which makes Izuku the better of them. The girl he caught during that exam arrives next, delighted he made it in. Their homeroom teacher follows, gives his name as Shota Aizawa, and immediately sends everyone off to change and report to the P.E. Grounds.

What waits there is a Quirk Apprehension Test, built to chart what each student's power can do and where it gives out, since middle school never let them find out. Katsuki takes a trial pitch with his Quirk and the class treats the whole thing as a good time. Shota does not share the mood. He adds one condition on the spot: whoever finishes last across the full point total will be written off as hopeless and expelled the same day. Izuku is left reeling.

Izuku begins his first day at U.A. High and finds Katsuki, Tenya and Ochaco all placed in his class. Shota Aizawa is revealed as the homeroom teacher of Class 1-A, and the Quirk Apprehension Test gets underway.

The nineteen page chapter belongs to the Quirk Apprehension Test Arc, published August 4, 2014 in issue 36 and collected in the first volume. Izuku and All Might appear together on the cover. Seven characters debut in it: Tsuyu Asui, Mashirao Ojiro, Kyoka Jiro, Toru Hagakure, Minoru Mineta, Denki Kaminari and Shota Aizawa himself. Episode 5 of the anime adapts the material.
