Monika Kaniyashiki

Character

Monika Kaniyashiki, who insists on being called Kaniko, plays the crab-themed clown so convincingly that nobody takes her seriously. That is the whole point: she is an undercover police officer, and the goofy act covers a sharp investigative mind and a Quirk that turns her fingers into scissors.

Appearance

Everything about Monika's hair is crab. The dull red bunches sit high and finish in claw shapes, six short tufts jut out to the sides like legs, and split bangs hang over each eye. She is short and slight, with a round face and orange-brown eyes cut into semicircles.

Undercover at the Kanidoge chain she wears a pinkish-red kimono to the knee, left hanging open over a black combat vest and pale green shorts, with black three-quarter leggings beneath, black fingerless gloves, geta on her feet, and a headband striped yellow and black. On official duty she switches to the standard female uniform of the Japanese police.

Personality

Cheerful, relaxed, and immediately friendly, Monika can strike up a conversation with a stranger without effort, and she would rather be Kaniko than Monika. She jokes constantly and lands almost none of them, a failure she blames on everyone else's missing sense of humor. When something upsets her, her face rearranges itself into a shape resembling the shell of a Heikegani.

Being dismissed suits her fine, given how much of her work happens undercover. The clowning hides a serious officer with real deductive and investigative ability, and she will put her life on the line for other people, Quirk included, knowing full well what using it might cost someone with a badge. The act never fully switches off, which leaves her colleagues guessing at whether any given remark is serious.

Abilities

Deductive Skills: First impressions do her no favors, but Monika thinks quickly and clearly. She untangled the method the Villain Factory was using to move and distribute Trigger through the Kanidoge food chain's products, and picked out the man behind it despite his disguise.

Snip Clip (ハサミ, Hasami): Her index and middle fingers take on the properties of scissors, cutting through nearly anything caught between them. The same effect transfers to her legs for larger cuts, which powers her Ultimate Move, Rocket Crab Clip: thrown at a target, she makes the cut with her legs on arrival.
