Sansa Tamagawa

From the neck down Sansa is a lean, ordinary officer. Above it sits a ginger tabby's head, wide yellow eyes and all. His standard kit matches the rest of the Police Force, a pale blue button-up under a protective vest, though a small golden bell hangs at his throat and belongs to nobody else.

The Paranormal Liberation War leaves him with a scar cutting across his left eye, and he takes to heavier armored gear in the period that follows. By the eight-year mark his whiskers have stretched out considerably, and he has traded up to a coat, hat, and dress clothes closely echoing Naomasa Tsukauchi's detective attire.

The series reveals little of what drives him. What comes through in every appearance is composure on the job: Sansa carries himself with the steady professionalism expected of an officer and rarely lets anything else surface.

Sansa's service runs the length of the story. He first appears in the wake of the U.S.J. attack and remains a fixture of Police Force scenes through the Forest Training Camp incident, the Paranormal Liberation War, and the years after, and he is counted among the Jaku General Hospital raid team. A younger version of him also works the beat throughout Vigilantes, placing him on the force well before Class 1-A ever enrolled.

Small details fill in the rest. He is left-handed, and his name stacks the kanji for ball, river, three, and tea, with Tama doubling as a stock name for cats in Japan. Early design sketches gave him a striped shirt, a busier vest, no collar, and a sizable gun holster. Readers placed him 44th in the first popularity poll and 97th in the global one.
