Tamao

Tamao's hair is short, light, and rises off the back of her head in a way that gives her whole silhouette the look of a tadpole. Her eyes and cheeks are both large. She goes around in a shirt several sizes too generous for her, black shorts, and running shoes.

Fear does not slow Tamao down much, with one glaring exception: snakes stop her cold. She has energy to burn and treats adult instruction as advisory at best, happy to disregard it when it stands between her and something she wants, which is how she ends up ditching her class after the teacher expressly told her not to.

Becoming a Pro Hero is the goal, and her own Quirk was, in her estimation, an obstacle to it. She disliked it enough to cling to the notion that enough training might grow her a better one instead. Meeting Froppy changes that. Afterward she carries herself with more confidence and stops resenting what she was born with.

Tamao's school took a group trip to Takoba National Stadium to watch hero students run a training exercise. Watching from the stands with her friends, the conversation turned to their own futures, and Tamao said what she wanted was something stronger and better suited to fighting than Tree Frog. When one of the other kids asked the teacher whether they could have a go at the course themselves and was turned down, Tamao went anyway.

She got onto the field just as Gale Force whipped up a small tornado that flung Froppy across the arena and left her near the boundary, so the first hero Tamao reached was a hero with a frog Quirk. The disappointment was immediate. Going in search of someone more exciting, she stepped onto unstable ground and would have dropped into a hole if Froppy's tongue had not caught her, which impressed her not at all, since a tongue was the one thing she expected from a frog.

The rest of the walk through the arena wore her down. Froppy's leaping, her grip on sheer walls, her swimming, her camouflage: piece by piece the girl came around, and by the end she wanted to be exactly that. Then a snake appeared and she froze, certain that a frog was the last thing capable of dealing with it. The snake turned out to be Habuko Mongoose, a friend of Froppy's, which knocked her sideways all over again.

Once the fright wore off, Tamao admitted that a frog-based power might be worth far more than she had credited, and declared she intended to grow up as frog-like as possible. Froppy cautioned her that reaching that point had taken a great deal of effort, and Tamao committed to putting in the work with the Quirk she already had.
