Toru Hagakure

Character

Toru Hagakure's Quirk never switches off, which leaves her the class stealth specialist and the one student whose face nobody has seen. She spent her U.A. years turning concealment into offense, learning to bend light into blinding flashes and to seize a classmate's laser mid-beam. Her curiosity is also what exposed the traitor in her own class.

Appearance

Clothing, accessories, and an occasional flicker of silhouette are the only markers of where Toru is standing. The body itself registers as nothing whatsoever, and she is on the short side.

Absorbing Yuga Aoyama's Navel Laser glitched the Quirk and finally showed her. Big round eyes came first, their irises teal at the rim and yellow toward the center, framed by bushy lashes. Her hair is long, wavy, and messy, chartreuse in the main with lime and yellow through it and strands of pink, turquoise, and pale blue. The anime renders her skin with a shimmer, the light visibly sliding across it.

Her Quirk dictates her hero costume, which amounts to two items: beige lace-up shoes, and light blue gloves traced with pale pink lines. The winter version swaps in knee-high boots and thicker gloves padded across the knuckles. Eight years past the Final War a special suit joins the redesigned gloves, cut to resemble a bikini and patterned in green and yellow, and it exists so that the next Quirk failure does not leave her exposed.

Personality

Bubbly and easygoing, Toru approaches almost everything cheerfully; she talked her female classmates into cheerleading at the Sports Festival on the grounds that they had time to spare. She is socially hungry, fond of shopping, and her room points to a weakness for plushies and cute things. Like Mina Ashido she has a romantic streak, pressing Ochaco Uraraka about her crush and steering the girls' slumber party toward love talk.

Stripping down mid-battle strikes her as a straightforward tactical advantage, which everyone around her finds excruciating. At the same time she seems not to have absorbed what invisibility actually means, showing flickers of embarrassment at being watched undress, a reaction that persists even in a costume that is barely clothing. None of that makes her a pushover: she is energetic but focused, and reliable in a fight or out of one, whether that means combat or handing out food during the Nabu Island evacuation.

She notices things. Yuga Aoyama had not been himself since Izuku Midoriya came back to U.A., and Toru was the one who wondered why, and who followed it far enough to learn he had been feeding intelligence to All For One under duress. She is fragile too, weeping at the nerve of him sitting in class beside them. Being seen unnerves her as well; when the Quirk failed during the Final War she panicked and complained that invisibility was her whole trademark, though eight years on she has made peace with it and now models for advertisements.

Abilities

Overall Abilities: Stealth and espionage are where she excels, and nobody else in her year comes close. Ordinary sight cannot find her, though the advantage only holds when she carries nothing, since clothing and equipment stay perfectly visible. She fights well besides, opening with a surprise attack that is close to undefendable and following with a barrage of punches and kicks, and she works with partners readily, which is how she and Mezo Shoji got past Snipe in the First Term Final Exam. The Provisional Hero License Exam was where she developed the photokinetic side of the Quirk, debuting Warp Refraction to stun a cluster of rival students and earning an internship under Yoroi Musha.

Invisibility: Her body works like a prism, refracting light continuously, which renders her wholly unseen. Beyond concealment, she can bend the light passing through her into a blinding flash, and her work-studies with Yoroi Musha refined this into the ability to grab and redirect light-based attacks outright. She scattered Yuga's Navel Laser in every direction to take down Kunieda, and later refracted a large-scale beam from All For One's Omni-Factor Unleash. The Quirk is always on, and it can fail: absorbing Yuga's empowered light during the Final War left her partially and then completely visible, and as a Pro Hero the glitches have become routine.

Ultimate Moves: Warp Refraction: Say Cheese! bends sunlight into flashes bright enough to blind temporarily. Warp Refraction: Navel Laser hijacks the output of Yuga's Quirk and throws that light outward on every axis at once, blinding and wrecking whatever stands nearby.
