Tartarus

From the Creature Rejection Clan hideout, All For One, still steering Tomura, sends the Near High-Ends to free his original body. That night, brothers Briareos and Gyges hold the Bronze Gate with a line of prison bots, trading numbers on the war: 132 Liberation members loose, 7 Nomu with them, 145 pros hospitalized. Then the security bots trip and three Nomu come out of the dark. One raises a purple barrier; another inflates and fires its spines, killing Briareos. Gyges calls a Code Red, and behind the creatures the man in Tomura's body dismisses the resistance and blows the gate apart with Air Cannon.

Inside, the control room is still congratulating itself over Gigantomachia when the alert fires and the blocks unlock. Barriers drop, exits seal, the bridge folds section by section, and the drone squad launches only to be dragged under by Nomu rising from the water. Riding a winged one, Tomura wakes and objects to the tenant in his body; All For One frets over his condition and insists he is no pawn. Tomura uses Search, locates the real body five hundred meters down, and leaps, decaying a control tower on the way. All For One warns that the water pressure alone would kill him and his unfinished body could not carry that much Decay.

Blending Air Cannon with Radio Waves, he lets off an EMP that stuns the whole system, and from within his own cell All For One finishes the job, killing the restraints outright before strolling out. Muscular walks through gunfire and crushes the guards. Moonfish carves through guards and fellow escapees alike. From the wreck of his own cell, Stain watches the runners go past. Lady Nagant, hearing someone still trapped, opens a door on an armless Kai Chisaki and decides to bring him along.

Stranded by the sunken bridge, the escapees are offered passage if they follow, and All For One greets his successor with talk of the coming chaos and the demon lord he means to become. A brainwashed staffer's biometrics get them onto an emergency craft, and on his orders the freed villains hit seven more prisons, cracking six.

Returned to the hideout, All For One asks Dabi, Skeptic and Spinner to guard the recovering body. Spinner says plainly that this is not the man he chose to follow. Two days on, Bakugo wakes at Central Hospital surrounded by classmates, Gran Torino turns over Nana's choice to give up Kotaro, Aizawa and Present Mic share their guilt and grieve Midnight, and protesters mass outside the windows. The Todoroki family pushes through reporters to reach Shoto, whose throat is too burned to speak. Bakugo fights his way out of bed toward Izuku's room, still comatose with All Might at his side.

The Assault on Tartarus succeeds: Briareos is killed, the prison's security is destroyed by an EMP and All For One's own Quirk, and the original All For One walks free. Muscular, Moonfish, Lady Nagant, Kai Chisaki and Stain are among the escapees, and Nagant takes Chisaki with her. All For One escapes the island by hijacking a craft with a brainwashed staffer's ID, then orders raids on seven further prisons, six of which are breached.

Spinner openly challenges All For One's occupation of Tomura. Two days later Bakugo regains consciousness at Central Hospital, Shoto is left unable to speak, crowds gather to protest the heroes, and Izuku remains comatose under All Might's watch.

Chapter 297 and the bulk of 298 supply the material, broadcast 14 January 2023 in Japan and 28 January in English.

The opening of the assault is lengthened, with Gyges and Briareos talking before the attack and their fight partly shown. Kurogiri is not among the prisoners as he is in the manga, Stain's decision to stay behind comes earlier, and Moonfish's rampage runs slightly longer. Spinner gets extra lines confronting the impostor. Rather than standing with him at the hideout, All For One is shown drifting over the ocean at sunrise, Present Mic gets added dialogue, and a new scene places Jiro, Kaminari and Tokoyami in recovery. Shoto's mental image of his brother is modeled on the volume 30 cover.
