Smoldering Flames

Gran Torino rides into the mountains with Naomasa Tsukauchi and a police unit chasing reports of Kurogiri in the area. Word comes that the suspect is pinned, and the old hero rockets through the trees to take him without much trouble, working on the theory that holding the warp villain will eventually deliver everyone else. Kurogiri explains he came here for a wild man whose noise drew the police in the first place, and then the ground itself starts to shake. All For One, he says, always planned past the present, and Shigaraki was never the only piece on the board: should protecting the boy ever become too much, there was another to lean on. Gigantomachia rises out of the mountainside, declares that his every act serves his master alone, and flattens the terrain around them.

At the hospital, Izuku hears about the attack on the Hassaikai transport and is told plainly by Aizawa not to shoulder it. Every student except Mirio is going back to school, and Eri stays behind. Before leaving, Izuku visits Mirio and finds him spinning his legs and grinning, because that is what Sir Nighteye would have wanted, and being told to try smiling for Eri himself. Guilt eats at Izuku over both the death and the lost Quirk, and he offers Mirio One For All outright, convinced that with it his friend could have saved his mentor. Mirio cuts him off before he can finish. He does not want it, Izuku is the hero here, and one day Eri may well rewind him back to what he was. All Might listens from the corridor.

Discharged, Izuku meets Eijiro Kirishima outside and the police collect them both for questions about the raid. Shoto Todoroki and Katsuki Bakugo head off to their provisional license course, with Katsuki refusing to walk beside him. The work-study group comes home to Heights Alliance and is mobbed by Class 1-A, Tenya Ida asking everyone to mind their exhaustion while Izuku waves it off. Ochaco, remembering her talk with Aizawa about being unable to save Nighteye, resolves to be someone who can. Katsuki and Shoto turn in early.

Morning takes the pair to training under All Might and Present Mic, who is standing in for Aizawa as a precaution against the League. All Might already knows about Gigantomachia from Gran Torino, who counts letting something that dangerous walk free as a loss regardless of Kurogiri. At the facility, Endeavor asks All Might for a word, which is the last thing Shoto wants, right behind running into Inasa Yoarashi. Inasa turns up anyway with Camie Utsushimi, then Seiji Shishikura, who scolds them for chumming around with U.A. and immediately clashes with Katsuki. Watching from a booth, Gang Orca and Yokumiru Mera prepare the hardest test these students have faced.

Gran Torino captures Kurogiri in the mountains, backed by Naomasa Tsukauchi and a police unit.

Gigantomachia appears, identified as All For One's fallback should Kurogiri's guardianship of Shigaraki ever falter.

Izuku offers One For All to Mirio Togata, who refuses it and points to Eri's Rewind as a possible future cure.

The work-study students return to Class 1-A and Heights Alliance, with Eri remaining hospitalized.

Shoto, Katsuki, Inasa, and Camie converge for the Provisional Hero License Course, and Endeavor seeks a conversation with All Might.

Adapted from Chapters 162 and 163, the episode straddles two arcs, closing the Shie Hassaikai material and opening the Remedial Course. It also changes the theme songs over to Starmarker and Shout Baby.

Kurogiri's capture is a much larger sequence than on the page, showing the approach, the arrest itself, and giving Gigantomachia a heavier presence. New to the adaptation are Izuku and Eijiro being met by police after discharge, the work-study students preparing to leave the hospital, and a scene outside Heights Alliance with the first-years. Their reflections on the raid are expanded, and the meeting between students of Shiketsu and U.A. runs slightly longer.
