Ketsubutsu Academy High School

The name translates roughly to heroic figure, which suits a campus built to turn teenagers into Pro Heroes. Ketsubutsu enters the story in Chapter 103 and Episode 53. Emi Fukukado, better known as Ms. Joke, teaches its second-year Class 2 and makes no secret of the school's standing grudge against U.A.

Uniforms run plain: gray polo shirts with dark brown trousers for the boys and skirts for the girls, worn under blazers marked with the school crest at the left breast. Boys knot striped ties, girls wear bowties, and training swaps all of it for white and blue tracksuits.

Every year, according to Ms. Joke, her school aims to knock U.A. out of the licensing exam preliminaries. The motive is practical as much as competitive, since the Sports Festival broadcasts U.A. Quirks to the entire country and paints targets on those students. Her class duly ambushed Class 1-A, the group under Shota Aizawa.

Eight of the second-years cleared the opening phase behind Yo Shindo. The rescue portion played to their strengths, since they had field experience, set up a functioning first aid area, and moved victims to safety efficiently. When Gang Orca stormed the arena in the closing stretch, Shindo threw himself at the threat while his classmates evacuated the wounded, and all eight walked away licensed.

Later, once the Hero Public Safety Commission made work studies mandatory for hero course students, Shindo teamed with Tatami Nakagame, Shikkui Makabe, and Itejiro Toteki. By the Dark Hero Arc the group were third-years working an evacuated city. Shindo and Nakagame, going by Grand and Turtle Neck, tried to talk a holdout group out of the Taguchi Building, an indoor gym. The civilians refused, trusting black market support gear and openly skeptical of heroes. Word then came that a villain called Jailbreaker was closing in, and he turned out to be Muscular.

Grand fought him and lost badly, pinned and slowly crushed under muscle fiber even after firing off Tremoring Earth. Deku arrived in a burst of smoke, blasted Muscular clear, and handed the wounded student to Turtle Neck before finishing the fight and hauling the villain away bound. The holdouts, shaken, brought out a stretcher and agreed to listen after all. Grand, coming to, puzzled over how much the hooded hero resembled the boy he met at the license exam and how little he felt like him.

Emi Fukukado, the Pro Hero Ms. Joke, teaches the second-year hero class and drives the rivalry with U.A. Yo Shindo, hero name Grand, leads the students and fights with a vibration power. Tatami Nakagame works as Turtle Neck, while Shikkui Makabe and Itejiro Toteki round out the work-study team.

In all, eight members of the class earned provisional licenses in a single sitting, and four of them carry names the story returns to.
