Chapter 102

Before returning to Gym Gamma, Izuku describes his Full Cowl technique to Mei and the maneuverability it grants, asking for a small alteration with an outsized payoff. She adds bracing spikes for the arm plus soles plated in iron.

At the gym, the Shoot Style save has just landed. Izuku checks on All Might while Eijiro and Denki notice the shift in his fighting, and he explains he has moved to kicks; it is no signature move yet, but it points somewhere. All Might judges the change useful for the license exam. Shota asks him to step somewhere safer, and All Might apologizes to Katsuki, who vents with an Explosion and tells him to watch himself. Peace's retired Symbol is unsettled by the arithmetic: a whole life spent shielding people, and now the shielding runs the other way.

Izuku remarks on the upgrades Eijiro and Denki are sporting, and Shoto, Kyoka, and Koji have made revisions of their own. Vlad King then arrives with Class 1-B, and Shota requests another ten minutes of the gym. Neito Monoma, dressed in plain gentleman's attire, predicts every 1-A student will fail given the exam's pass rate. Some worry the classes will be pitted against each other, but Shota reveals they test at different venues, which relieves Neito. Vlad King explains that the exam runs each June and September at three sites nationwide, and splitting a school's students across locations and times is standard practice to keep classmates apart. Neito laments losing his chance personally, leaving Eijiro and Denki to question his mental health. Shota warns 1-A that first-years rarely earn the license, since the field is full of students who have trained far longer.

That night in Heights Alliance, the girls unwind in the common room and grouse about training. Toru asks about everyone's techniques; Tsuyu and Momo have concepts that need more practice. Ochaco goes quiet and glum until Tsuyu nudges her, then admits she has a long road ahead and that her head is a mess. Mina diagnoses love, which Ochaco denies, and the follow-up question about whether it is Izuku or Tenya sends her floating with embarrassment. She insists neither friendship is like that. Mina is told off for prying into someone's love life, and the two who said so turn in for the night. Ochaco watches Izuku training outside and repeats to herself, blushing, that it is nothing of the sort.

The remaining days pass. Class 1-A reaches Takoba National Stadium for the exam, nerves showing, and Shota tells them to give it everything so they can move closer to the goal. Their huddle is interrupted by a student who barges in, earning a rebuke from a classmate for the rudeness. The intruder apologizes with tremendous force, bowing hard enough to crack his head on the ground and draw blood, which alarms several of 1-A. Katsuki notes the berets as the mark of a western school that rivals U.A. in the east: Shiketsu High School. Inasa Yoarashi cheerfully declares his excitement at facing U.A. and wishes them luck before departing with his classmates. Shota names him and reveals that Inasa took the same entrance exam their year, topped every score, cleared it, and then refused the place. Izuku is left wondering whether he stands on Shoto's level.

Mei adds arm spikes and iron soles to Izuku's costume to support Shoot Style, and much of Class 1-A shows off upgrades and technique progress.

All Might is shaken by his new position as the one needing protection rather than the one providing it.

Class 1-B arrives, and Vlad King explains the exam runs twice yearly at three national sites, with schools split up to prevent classmates from clashing.

Mina teases Ochaco about being in love, and Ochaco begins to recognize her feelings for Izuku.

Class 1-A arrives at Takoba National Stadium for the Provisional Hero License Exam and meets Shiketsu High School.

Inasa Yoarashi, Seiji Shishikura, and Nagamasa Mora debut, with Shota revealing that Inasa posted the best entrance score of their year yet refused the place.

Numbered 102 in Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia, this 19-page entry ran in the combined 36-37 issue of 2016, dated August 8. Volume 12 carries it, and it wraps up Ultimate Move Training inside the Provisional Hero License Exam arc. Izuku Midoriya and Toshinori Yagi appear on the cover, with a sketch included.

Horikoshi's author comment expresses gratitude toward the people handling the spin-off series running in JUMP GIGA.

Ochaco does not become nauseous when she floats here, and whether her training or something else accounts for it goes unexplained. Himiko Toga appears disguised as Camie Utsushimi, and Gran Torino features in a flashback. The anime adapts the material in Episode 53.
