Chapter 135

The second floor meeting room at Sir Nighteye's office fills up, and questions start before anyone sits. Ochaco and Tsuyu wonder why Shota Aizawa is present, and he answers that his help was requested. Fat Gum tells a bewildered Eijiro that everything will be laid out shortly. Bubble Girl opens by explaining that the office began probing the Shie Hassaikai after the group clashed with Team Reservoir Dogs, an incident the Police Force filed as an accident despite it making no sense. Centipeder's follow up work established that the yakuza have been reaching out to other villain groups and to black markets nationwide, all to swell their numbers and their funds.

Once the official inquiry started, the Hassaikai contacted Twice of the League of Villains. The trail went cold, but police cooperation confirmed a falling out between the two sides. Gran Torino gathers that League involvement is why he and Naomasa Tsukauchi were summoned, and reports that Naomasa is out on his own investigation. Spotting Izuku, Gran Torino remarks that his student has stumbled into something ugly. Izuku brushes it off, and explains to a curious Mirio that this was his Field Training mentor, which startles Eijiro, who recognizes the old man from Kamino.

The sidekicks continue. Assistance was requested through the HN, and when Ochaco looks lost, Nejire explains that the Hero Network is a licensed professionals only service for tracking colleagues' activity nationwide and requesting specific Quirks. One hero questions whether students belong in a discussion about to turn dark. Fat Gum defends his interns as essential, and Nighteye notes that suspected drug trafficking is exactly why a specialist like Fat Gum was called. Fat Gum then describes the recent street battle, and the round that struck Tamaki with something no one had seen: a drug that breaks Quirks.

Mirio checks on his friend, and Tamaki proves he has healed by growing a cow hoof from his hand. Shota separates the injury from his own Erasure, explaining that a Quirk emerges when a body's structure is altered by a plus alpha, and that this addition is called the Quirk Factor. Erasure freezes its activation temporarily and can never damage it. Fat Gum adds that hospital examination found Tamaki's Quirk Factor damaged, though it healed naturally. The projectile itself carried no abnormalities and only the ability was targeted, the shooter refuses to talk, and the shattered gun yielded only fragments. Because Eijiro shielded his friend, however, an intact round survived with its contents, which surprises him and earns praise from Ochaco, Tsuyu and Nejire. Analysis found human blood and cells inside, unsettling the students badly.

Ryukyu reasons that the round carried the DNA of a Quirk built to destroy Quirks. A hero objects that nothing yet ties this to the Hassaikai. Fat Gum concedes the middlemen dealt with the yakuza but no evidence shows the group selling the rounds itself, and Nighteye adds that the gang war Ryukyu's team broke up traced back to the same distributor. Pressed for something firmer, Nighteye names Kai Chisaki, the boss, whose Overhaul ability pulls things apart and puts them back together, and states plainly that the Quirk and the bullets are connected. Izuku and Mirio go cold, realizing Chisaki's daughter Eri is the missing piece, and that taking her in during their patrol would have ended everything then and there. Nighteye notes she has no birth certificate and no known history, and that she was covered in bandages when the two encountered her. Gran Torino observes that given a society full of superhumans, sheer determination lets anyone achieve nearly anything, and Nighteye finishes the thought: Chisaki is almost certainly refining his own child into ammunition.

He tempers it slightly, calling the round fired at Tamaki a prototype, since the effect wore off and no proof of sales exists. Fat Gum demands a hunt. One hero remarks the whole affair would already be over had the students taken the girl, and Nighteye shoulders the blame himself, since he was the one who stopped the rescue. Izuku and Mirio, sick with regret, condemn their own claims of becoming the greatest, then rise and swear that this time Eri comes home. Nighteye sets the objective accordingly.

Nighteye lays out the full investigation into the Shie Hassaikai, including their contact with Twice and their nationwide black market dealings.

Combining what Ryukyu's and Fat Gum's teams each ran into, the room concludes that the yakuza are manufacturing a drug that wipes out a person's Quirk Factor.

Nighteye names Chisaki's daughter Eri as the source, and Izuku and Mirio vow to rescue her.
