Chapter 136

With Izuku Midoriya and Mirio Togata pledged to the rescue, a hero points out that Kai Chisaki needs Eri for his scheme and, given how casually the two students bumped into her, would surely have moved her out of headquarters by now. Ryukyu presses Sir Nighteye on where the girl is. That, he answers, is precisely the problem, and since Chisaki's full design remains unknown, delay only hands the Shie Hassaikai chances to strike back. His office has therefore mapped every affiliated organization and every property the yakuza have ever used, and he asks the assembled heroes to sweep them, having deliberately assigned people already familiar with each district.

Fat Gum objects that all this careful groundwork bought the gang more time to hurt her. Nighteye replies that they will not repeat All Might's approach, and that thoroughness is what maximizes her odds. Gran Torino backs him, recalling how a single misstep during Stain's arrest handed the League of Villains an enormous publicity windfall, though the rest of the room pushes back.

Watching the discussion stall, Shota Aizawa asks the obvious question: why not simply look at the outcome of the operation? Nighteye cannot. Foresight recharges over a full day, granting him one hour in which he may read one person's future. What unspools resembles frame by frame footage of a life, though strictly from that individual's viewpoint, showing only their actions and immediate surroundings. Shota argues that still gives them plenty. Nighteye counters with the example neither Izuku nor Gran Torino needs explained: seeing a death changes nothing about it. He saves the ability for moments when success is already likely, treating it as insurance rather than a plan. When a hero insists that even a death is actionable information, Nighteye refuses, since nothing about his sight proves an outcome can be dodged. Invited to read that hero on the spot, he declines. Ryukyu cuts the tension by noting a child's life is on the table, and Nighteye closes the meeting by defining the mission as finding Eri and securing her fast.

Downstairs afterward, Izuku, Ochaco, Eijiro, Tsuyu, Mirio, Tamaki and Nejire gather at a table, and the two who met Eri recount the encounter, still hollowed out by how close they came. Shota finds his students and admits he had considered pulling their internships once the League surfaced, then tells Izuku his trust has not been rebuilt, but that stopping him would only send him leaping back in anyway. Permission granted, sealed with a fist bumped against Izuku's chest. Tamaki and Nejire pull Mirio out of his own guilt, arguing that regret earns nothing, and he agrees. Shota adds that the hand which fell just short of her almost certainly left the girl feeling something besides despair, and urges him to keep pressing ahead. Izuku gladly agrees.

Deeper in the office, Gran Torino meets Nighteye, who wonders aloud whether Izuku was steered his way to patch things up with All Might. Denying any such motive, Gran Torino asks instead what he makes of the boy. Nighteye's answer is that Izuku resembles All Might closely, right down to that same mad, driving hunger. Meanwhile Eri lies in a darkened bedroom among toys still in their packaging. A subordinate lets himself in claiming to check on her, notices the untouched gifts, and asks her to relax. He pats her gently while turning over Chisaki's instructions, that he is to be her new intermediary and must become someone she trusts, and leaves the hallway with no idea how. On the bed, Eri thinks of Izuku's touch, how unlike every other hand it felt, how kind, and her eyes fill. Izuku pulls on his costume, resolve set.

Nighteye organizes a coordinated sweep of every site connected to the Shie Hassaikai in order to pinpoint Eri.

Shota clears Izuku and the other students to join the operation, and Eri begins holding onto the memory of Izuku's kindness.
