Chapter 175

Every class at U.A. is still building. In the gymnasium, Class 1-A's dance team runs its routine until Hound Dog cuts practice short and orders everyone back to the dormitories. Sleep does not come easily that night. Working on the rope meant for the performance, Izuku Midoriya finds it frayed, and with Momo Yaoyorozu already asleep he decides to buy a fresh length in the morning. Before turning in, the class swears the event will land.

The day arrives. At 6:30 a filthy Mei Hatsume tracks Izuku down mid training with Toshinori Yagi and hands over what he ordered: a pair of gloves, designed not to clash with his costume. Toshinori marvels at how compact support equipment has become next to the bulk he wore in his day. Izuku thanks her, takes the manual, and she is gone. Toshinori suggests a test run, and Izuku agrees.

At 7:50, still wearing the gloves, Izuku hurries to the market, gets his rope, and starts back with the clock against him. At 8:30 he collides with a disguised Gentle Criminal and La Brava. He apologizes; the man is preoccupied with losing the aftertaste of his Golden Tips Imperial. The pair try to leave without further contact, but Izuku catches the talk of coffee and remarks that the house they mean is a shop, which stops Gentle short. That a boy knows Golden Tips Imperial impresses him, and Izuku explains that a friend had served it to his class. Something in the voice nags at him. Gentle compliments the friend, then works out that the boy attends U.A. At the same time Izuku assembles his own answer, from the tea, to the video about tea, to the video promising society a wake up call. Gentle realizes he has talked far too long and moves to leave. Izuku asks whether the routine belongs to him.

Too late for cover against someone this sharp. Gentle turns back and takes the mask off, asking whom the boy means. Izuku drops his groceries. He knows exactly what a single alarm costs: the festival ends on the spot. He says he has seen the video. Gentle squares up and tells La Brava to swing the camera onto him. Izuku sets himself and tells him to leave U.A. alone.

The clock reads 8:32. Class 1-A performs in an hour and forty eight minutes.

The first morning of the School Festival arrives.

Out buying rope, Izuku collides with the disguised duo by accident and works out what they intend.

Knowing that any attempt on the event will get it cancelled immediately, he prepares to fight and stop them himself.

Titled Morning, the Day Of, the chapter runs fifteen pages and appeared on March 19, 2018, in issue 16 of that year. It belongs to volume 19 and the U.A. School Festival arc, and Episode 84 adapts it.

The Air Force Gloves debut here. The cover is one of the arc's most crowded, running from Eri and Kyoka Jiro through Mei Hatsume, Nejire Hado and Togaru Kamakiri to Reiko Yanagi and Neito Monoma.
