Fumikage looks back on his time interning and work-studying under Hawks. The No. 2 Hero handles nearly every incident personally, something one of his sidekicks confirms without embarrassment: the staff exists to tidy up after the rescue is already over. Being reduced to cleanup left Fumikage doubting whether he belongs in the profession at all.

Pressed at the agency about why he was chosen, Hawks jokes that they are both birds, then puts numbers on it. Twenty percent was the bird thing. Fifty percent was wanting to hear about the League of Villains from someone in Class 1-A, and he picked from the top three because he needed someone able to keep pace. Fumikage told him what he knew about the U.S.J. attack, felt his frustration build, and left the work-study convinced he had learned nothing.

The second invitation came later, during his Shie Hassaikai internship, and this time Hawks and his sidekicks notice how much sharper Fumikage's technique has become. On a flight after hours, Hawks finally accounts for the last thirty percent: he thinks Fumikage is squandering his potential. A winged creature, he argues, has no business keeping itself earthbound.

Back in the present match, Shihai mocks the name of Fumikage's ultimate move while continuing to travel through shadows. He grabs Yuga and hauls him off, reasoning that in a concrete maze his Black Quirk beats Dark Shadow, which is physically tethered to its user. Then Fumikage appears behind him anyway, airborne, with Dark Shadow gripping him and his cloak drawn over it to deepen the darkness. That is Dark Shadow: Black Fallen Angel.

Yuga is pulled free, and Momo has him fire Navel Buffet to flood the area with lasers and scramble every shadow. Fumikage's cloak keeps Dark Shadow from being weakened by the glare. With nowhere dark left to hide, Momo sends the invisible Toru to grab Shihai. A mushroom sprouts on Momo's nose. Shihai only smiles, noting that Itsuka always thinks a move ahead. Watching the lights come up and reading it as the failure of plan A, Kinoko starts plan B: bury Class 1-A in mushrooms.

Fumikage recounts both his internship and his work-study with Hawks, including the three reasons Hawks scouted him.

The second match of the Joint Training Battle continues, with Shihai capturing Yuga before Fumikage intercepts.

Black Fallen Angel is shown in full for the first time, letting Fumikage fly by having Dark Shadow carry him beneath his cloak.

Readers see Kinoko Komori's whole face for the first time as she launches the 1-B team's fallback plan.

Thirteen pages, released September 24, 2018 in issue 43 of that year and collected in volume 21. Part of the Joint Training arc, it was adapted alongside the previous chapter as Episode 93.

Hawks and Fumikage Tokoyami share the cover, matching the flashback material that opens the chapter. Locations span Ground Gamma and Class 1-A at U.A. High School, plus Fukuoka Tower in flashback.
