Summary
Still crying in the backyard after his punishment, Tenko clutches Mon, and Decay activates for the first time without him understanding what it is. The dog comes apart in his arms, reduced to bloody scraps of meat.
He is staring at the remains in horror when Hana calls out. She tries to apologize for letting him absorb their father's anger when the office had been her idea. Tenko cannot warn her; the same phenomenon has damaged his voice. She sees her brother hurting and rushes toward him, then spots what is left of the dog and bolts in terror while he silently begs her to stay.
He catches up to her. His bare hand touches her, and she comes apart while calling for their mother. The sight makes him vomit.
Nao and the grandparents arrive to the horror of it. Tenko reaches for his mother, but his hand meets the ground, Decay races outward, and it kills all three of them by accident. Nao keeps reaching back as she falls to pieces, trying to hold and comfort him, and her body gives out before she can. The noise brings Kotaro, who finds what his son has done and can only stand and stare while Tenko begs and the ground around them dissolves.
The frantic boy runs at his father, still pleading, decaying everything he passes without meaning to. Kotaro panics, swings a pole at him in self defense, and orders him to stop. The blow trips something. Tenko attacks with full intent to kill, presses a hand to his father's face in payment for all that pain, and tells him to die. He recalls the relish he felt at ending the abuse.
The house comes apart around him, and Tomura reflects that some part of him may always have wanted an event exactly like this.
