Summary

With his family dead, Tenko drifted through the city for a while, unsure what to do and weighed down by guilt. Unable to speak, he could only hope in silence that someone would reach out. An older woman stopped briefly, took in his appearance, and hurried off unnerved. He wondered whether this was punishment for the killings, and found to his distress that his hatred of everyone had not eased at all.

All For One and Daruma Ujiko stood over him once his family's severed hands had been placed in his keeping. All For One told the boy his impulse to destroy could not be controlled, that controlling it was unnecessary, and that it was not necessarily a bad thing.

A scrap with two street thugs came later. Tenko raised his Quirk against them and then backed off. He threw a tantrum afterward while All For One talked the incident through with him, urging him to act as his heart commanded or else suffer for it. Conscience, morals, ethics: all fabrications, all built to restrain people like them. Asked once more what he wanted, Tenko stared at his family's hands and said the two thugs were the ones he wanted dead, that he could no longer hold the feeling back. All For One smiled and wished him luck with it.

The thugs were standing under a shop sign, complaining about how many hero agencies keep opening around the city, when Tenko came around the corner wearing his family's hands over his body. Recalling what he had been told about keeping his family near, he walked up. They called him creepy and asked what he wanted as he raised a hand toward them. What was left behind amounted to blood pooled on the ground and a scattering of severed limbs. He felt sick and disgusted, and also, to his own confusion, perfectly calm, as though nothing were off limits to him now.

From a rooftop nearby, the two men watched it happen. Ujiko was surprised, having assumed the boy's memories were gone. All For One corrected him: the memories remained, merely shut away. The hands would serve as restraints, suppressing everything but the negative emotions, and Tenko was already keeping his Quirk in check without realizing it. Smiling, All For One took pride in watching the boy take his first step toward the Symbol of Fear, then promised to cultivate and encourage the rest of the journey.

Afterward, All For One congratulated him on the work, called him reborn, and produced five fresh hands. Two came off the thugs; the last he described as a little bonus. He had the boy put them all on and gave him a new name: Tomura Shigaraki. The boy did not understand it. All For One explained that the given name comes from a word meaning to mourn, and that the surname is his own.

Back in Deika, Tomura reflects that had anyone reached back to him, the itch under his skin might have left him for good. He is surprised to remember everything from the time after receiving the hands, memories he assumed were long lost. With Re-Destro looming over him, he declares the future unnecessary. Deciding his family's deaths were never a tragedy, he takes hold of his father's hand and destroys it, unnecessary as well.

Gigantomachia crashes through the city straight toward the two of them. Twice's clones haul an unconscious Himiko Toga along while they watch the destruction; one sarcastically invites the Liberation Army's people to hold their ground and fight, and another notes they are not damaging him in the slightest. Dabi and Geten fight on. Mr. Compress, dismayed at having been fooled about Gigantomachia for months, calls him unstoppable, shouts that their leader is in serious danger, and begs Dabi to wrap his fight up so the two of them can help. Geten silently worries about Re-Destro. Spinner, cutting through Army soldiers alongside more clones, shouts his leader's name.
