Summary

Class 1-A files out onto the First Year Stage at U.A.'s Sports Festival, with the other first-year classes following behind. Midnight, serving as Chief Referee for the stage, calls up the player representative, and that turns out to be Katsuki Bakugo. He takes the stage and informs her he intends to place first, which draws jeers from every other class.

Midnight then announces the preliminaries. The First Event is an Obstacle Race running nearly four kilometers around the stadium.

The start goes badly for Izuku, who cannot find room to move in the crush. Shoto Todoroki solves that problem by freezing the ground, pinning dozens of students in ice and skidding into the lead. All of Class 1-A gets clear of it, and Shoto notes that while he expected a few of them to dodge, more managed it than he planned for. Minoru tries to strike him with his Quirk and gets knocked aside by a Robo Inferno. Then the first obstacle reveals itself: a wall of Villain Robots left over from the entrance exam, blocking the route. Shoto flash freezes a swath of them, and the falling machines seal the way behind him while he pulls far out in front.

Villain Robots corner Izuku, who decides this is the moment to put his head to work, no longer frozen with fear the way he was during the Entrance Exam.
