Kohei Horikoshi's twenty-fifth My Hero Academia installment drives the Obstacle Race through its back half, where rope crossings and buried mines thin the field. Shoto, Katsuki and Izuku each answer the course in their own way, and the boy hoarding his power improvises his way to the front.
Summary
Unwilling to spend One For All this early, Izuku Midoriya solves his robot problem with scrap. He slips a charging Villain Bot, tears loose a sheet of metal, and lets the machine's own momentum drive it into his makeshift blade, taking its head off. The plate becomes a shield he keeps hold of as the pack of first years, most of them out of Class 1-A, breaks past the machines and pushes on.
Next comes The Fall, a gorge that can only be crossed on ropes. Shoto Todoroki is already over it and closing on the last hazard, the Land Mine Field. Katsuki Bakugo barely treats the ropes as a barrier at all, riding his blasts across while Izuku picks his way over more slowly. Careful footing costs Shoto the enormous cushion he built at the start, because mines cannot touch Katsuki, who detonates his way forward and seizes first outright. Neither will yield the position, and they start trading blows over it then and there.
Izuku reaches the mines well behind them, close enough to see the leaders and far too far back to run them down on foot. His answer is the shield. He plants himself on the metal, sets off a mine underneath it, and rides the blast over the pack into first.
Key Events
Eijiro Kirishima and Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu turn up with strikingly similar Quirks. While the rest of the field burns through their powers on the course, Izuku deliberately leaves One For All alone and wins ground on improvisation instead. The chapter also gives the Department of Support its first appearance in the series.
Katsuki takes the lead away from Shoto at the minefield, and Izuku's mine-powered launch drops him in front of both of them. Ibara Shiozaki, Hiryu Rin and Mei Hatsume all debut.
