Chapter 249

Endeavor narrates his preoccupation with his family. Sleep comes on the same question of what he can possibly do for them, and a dream keeps returning in which his wife and children sit around the table laughing, without him among them.

Izuku, Katsuki, and Shoto are lodging with the Flaming Sidekickers at the agency. Burnin rousts them early and asks whether anyone has beaten Endeavor to a villain yet; Shoto says they came close yesterday and will manage it today. Taking in their battered costumes, Burnin thinks these three need no pushing from her. A week of training has kept them driven, and on patrol they trail Endeavor as he effortlessly collars a thief and returns the stolen cash. Enji reflects that he has only ever come at his family as a hero rather than a father, and yet Fuyumi still wants him to have the chance to atone.

That evening he brings the three home for dinner at Fuyumi's suggestion. Katsuki demands to know why he is there, and Shoto explains the instruction was to bring friends, a label Katsuki rejects. Fuyumi introduces herself and the group sits down with Natsuo. Izuku compliments the cooking, which Fuyumi has handled alone since their maid retired with a bad back, and she reveals Natsuo cooked too, surprising Shoto. Natsuo admits Endeavor made him stop after he over-seasoned things, then finishes and leaves quickly, still unwilling to sit close to his father.

During cleanup Izuku asks Katsuki how much he knew of Shoto's history, and Katsuki admits he was listening at the U.A. Sports Festival. Meanwhile Fuyumi tells Shoto she understands Natsuo while insisting there is still a chance to repair things. Asked what he thinks of Endeavor, Shoto says the scar came from him, because his mother endured years of abuse before she broke. Easy forgiveness is beyond him, though he recognizes that she has been working to move forward.

Katsuki barges in shouting at them not to air family drama in front of company. Izuku tells Shoto he seems to be preparing to forgive his father, reasoning that genuine hatred would make refusal fine, and that Shoto is too kind for that, simply waiting for his moment. Enji catches this on his way into another room, where he leaves an offering at the family's Butsudan altar and prays, his gaze settling on a portrait of Toya, his eldest, with the wish that the boy were there.

Rei is revealed to have regretted scalding Shoto instantly, trying to cool the burn with her own Quirk, and Toya's face appears for the first time, apparently posthumously. Chapter 249, by Kohei Horikoshi, runs fifteen pages in volume 26 within the Endeavor Agency arc, published November 11, 2019 in issue 50, with Episode 105 adapting it.
